This architect-designed two-bedroom ground floor apartment in a historical building in central Girona sleeps 4 and is well placed for exploring glorious Catalonia. With textured stone walls, crisp white linens in the bedrooms and the minimalist décor, it has plenty of style to recommend it. Our favorite part is the plunge pool in the private courtyard, bordered on one side by a tall stone wall and on the other by a manicured lawn and ideal for a heady summer’s day after exploring the cobbled streets nearby. The outdoor dining table is perfect for the warmer months and can seat the whole family. The apartment is walking distance from Girona’s pavement cafés, Michelin-starred restaurants and museums.

Girona, Costa Brava

On the Onyar River

This historic city an hour north of Barcelona is known for its restaurants, but don’t panic if your kids aren’t into fine dining, there are fantastic bakeries and riverside cafés here too. Leave the car and stroller at home and pack comfortable shoes for a day wandering the city's cobblestoned streets, its museum and its cathedral. Then explore the coast to the north: a 40-minute drive will take you to fishing villages, Greek ruins and a castle once owned by Salvador Dali.
