Perks for the Parents

Recently renovated, this bright and stylish apartment is a short hop from the local beach, with parks, woods, walks and the local village center all walking distance away. It sleeps 6 + 1. High ceilings and contemporary décor set the tone at this relaxing residence, with top of the range appliances in the kitchen and bathroom, and modern furnishings throughout. The playfully decorated kids’ bunk room doubles as a play area so parents can claim the living room for themselves, with plenty of comfy sofas to unwind on. There’s a pretty outdoor sun terrace with further seating, and a table for alfresco dining and morning coffees. For those who prefer to eat out, the residence is just off the village Rambla (main street) with a good choice of family-friendly eateries on offer. There’s a beautiful sandy beach the other side of the village, as well as a picturesque harbor and miles of sun-drenched coastline to explore. The hosts are happy to help arrange for babysitters on request.

Why Kids Love it

With a spacious bunk room sleeping 4, including plenty of toys, books, and a playful design, kids can enjoy sleep over style fun with their siblings, cousins or friends. The living area is roomy with ample space to play or chillout, and a large TV for movie time. The local area has plenty on offer, with beach-front parks, playgrounds and kid-friendly eateries to wander around in the evenings - kids are nearly always welcome in restaurants here. Across the road from the apartment is the local library which has a big space for kids to play and read. For older ones and teens, there’s diving and water sports on offer along the local coast, and a beach-front amusement park with rides for all ages. It’s 10 minutes’ drive to the larger resort of Platja d’Aro, which has an adventure park, cinema complex, and water park (plus miles more sandy beaches). The hosts can provide a crib, highchair, and stair gates on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The apartment is on the second floor of a building without an elevator. There are only two residences in the building. The private terrace overlooks the inner courtyard of the estate. There is an extra €120 fee for cleaning. Please note that the primary bed is in the living area rather than a separate room. There is no bathtub at the property. There is air conditioning and WiFi throughout the apartment. Car hire is not essential as most local attractions are within walking distance. For those bringing a car, there is paid on-street parking available near the apartment and free parking around a 5-minute walk away. Sorry, no pets.

About the Location

The apartment is located in the center of Sant Feliu de Guixols, in Costa Brava, Spain. It’s just off the Main Street (rambla), about a 10-minute walk into the center of the village and less than half a mile to the beach. Sant Feliu de Guixols is well set up for kids with the beach, parks, playgrounds, walks and woods all within easy reach, and there’s also a public library right in front of the house with play space and events. The local beach-front has amusements and rides, as well as a pretty harbor. Christmas is an extra special time to visit as everything is decorated and lit up for the festive season. The closest international airport is Girona, a 30-minute car ride away.

Style Notes

Loft living. This recently renovated loft is set within a classic colorful townhouse, characteristic of the area. Inside, lofty beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and a predominantly open plan layout create a light, bright and airy space to unwind and relax in. Furnishings are contemporary with pops of color and character introduced through handpicked art works. The bunk room is beautifully decorated with pictures, bookshelves and individual reading lamps for camp out vibes. We love the alfresco terrace with a sofa and dining table positioned perfectly for sunny alfresco breakfasts and leisurely lunches beneath the shaded canopy.

Girona, Costa Brava

On the Onyar River

This historic city an hour north of Barcelona is known for its restaurants, but don’t panic if your kids aren’t into fine dining, there are fantastic bakeries and riverside cafés here too. Leave the car and stroller at home and pack comfortable shoes for a day wandering the city's cobblestoned streets, its museum and its cathedral. Then explore the coast to the north: a 40-minute drive will take you to fishing villages, Greek ruins and a castle once owned by Salvador Dali.
