Accommodation Details

This 7-bedroom French country house with private heated pool and indoor spa includes a large kitchen-diner seating 14, plus 3 living rooms and an alfresco dining terrace with views over the gardens, pool and vineyards beyond. The 7 bedrooms include 4 with queensize beds and 6 with twin beds, and the 6 bathrooms include 2 with bath tubs and 4 with showers. Four travel cribs available; washer/dryer and WiFi included.

Style Notes

Traditional French country living. Decorated in a French shabby chic style, there are many beautiful antique pieces of furniture, coupled with comfortable sofas and modern conveniences (flat screen TVs and well-equipped kitchen). The living space is spread over 2 floors with 4-poster beds in 3 of the bedrooms along with beautiful cotton percale bedlinen and super-sized fluffy towels. We love the green countryside views from the oversized windows.

We are a British family with 2 children who moved to France in 2007. We have taken vacations with babies, toddlers and stroppy teenagers and with in-laws and grandparents in tow, so feel well-placed to know what is required for a great holiday! Our kids are schooled in France, we're now considered as "locals" plus we speak the lingo! We're on hand (discretely and only if wanted) to assist guests on finding hidden gems (restaurants and places that you wouldn't find in your average guide book).

Gironde, South of France

Fairytale vineyards and the Atlantic Coast

This area of Southwest France where the Garonne and Dordogne rivers merge is known for one thing in particular: its wine. Bordeaux, the city at the heart of this departement, has metropolitan treasures in the shape of museums and architecture, skate parks and kid-friendly theatres, along with fantastic restaurants and wine bars. The vineyards around the city have children’s trails, donkeys, fairytale castles and gardens and a sip of grape juice at the end of it, and certainly know how to keep the whole family entertained. Head to the Atlantic coast for laid back luxury in Cap Ferret, the country’s answer to Martha’s Vineyard, eat oysters from Arcachon Bay, play on beaches, cycle through pine forests and go horse back riding amid some of the most stunning dunes in the continent.
