Perks for the Parents

This charming stone villa with a pool and astonishing views of the Agaete Valley is in a quiet and tranquil part of the island, known for its charm and beauty. With a flavor of the 1950s, when the villa was built, the experience is that of unhurried living, days spent in the sun, eating tropical fruits with views of the Atlantic in one direction and Tamadaba Nature Park in the other.

Why Kids Love it

Along with a pool, there is a games room with a pool table, a big patio and plenty of space inside and out large enough for all kind of toys. Toys and books are provided for kids of all ages. Two cribs, 2 high chairs and a baby bath can be provided on request. Nearby family attractions include a rocky beach a short drive away, trekking routes, the fishing port and marina at Las Nieves and ferry trips to Tenerife.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days. The house is safe and secure. There are concrete stairs to get to the second floor and a stair gate can be provided on request. The big pool is heated with solar panels but is not gated. It is surrounded by a stone patio with steps - young children may need supervision. Car rental essential for exploring the island - the distances in Gran Canaria are short and the village is well connected. The climate is constant year-round offering plenty of chance to enjoy sun and seaside fun. No pets. Two bikes can be provided for guests.

About the Location

The property is in the small fishing village of Agaete in the northwest of Gran Canaria. Nestled between the mountains and the seaside, it has the Agaete Valley on one side and Puerto de Las Nieves on the other. Awash with white houses, the village is especially noted for the friendliness and familiarity of its people. Nearby attractions include walking in the Tamadaba Nature Park or the villages of El Sao and El Hornillo, day trips to Tenerife (an hour by ferry) and dining in Las Nieves. The closest airport is in Las Palmas, just under an hour away.

Accommodation Details

This 600 sq m house is set over 2 floors and has 4 double bedrooms, 2 with ensuite bathrooms. Three bedrooms each sleep 2 while 1 bedroom has 2 fullsize/double beds and is ideal for kids. There is a small lounge with sea views and a sofa bed. Three bathrooms have bathtubs and showers. The house is set around a central courtyard with a lounge, a games room with a pool table and a dining room around it. There is a toilet on the ground floor and a large kitchen diner with pantry and laundry access. There is a private pool, large porch, outdoor terrace and garden.

Style Notes

Classic Canarian style. With nods to the 1950s, when this location and style of house was very much in vogue, this stone villa was renovated with natural touches and a nod to ‘unhurried living’. Light colors mix with wood; local quarried stone was used and large windows were conserved in every room. The windows were conceived to be the best pictures hanging on the walls. All the rooms offer spectacular views - on the one side there is Tamadaba Nature Park while on the other, there is the Atlantic Ocean. We love the spacious terrace and porch and the original mosaic tiled floors on the ground floor.

When I was 5 years old I went to Fuerteventura, which is another island in The Canary Islands. When our holidays finished and we where at the airport, I told my mum "I've really liked this country. Next year we should go to another one!". I like working in this not only because I am from The Canary Islands but because I love to travel to satisfy my insatiable need for the exciting and adventure!

Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

Sandy beaches, active sports and underwater exploration

With dramatic mountains in its heart and sandy beaches around the coast, the third largest Canary island is a highly popular family holiday location. Away from the resorts, the island is leafy and green with family-friendly beaches plus hiking, cycling and watersports. Try camel riding or jeep tours to explore inland, or head to the water on a pirate ship, dolphin watching tour or submarine.
