Perks for the Parents

This beautiful, large house in the center of historic Haarlem with everything for kids is 10 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from Amsterdam. It sleeps up to 10 + 1. This 1900 Dutch townhouse is colorful, cozy and ideal for a family (or possibly 2-family) stay. The high-end kitchen is great for whipping up dinner, while there’s space for kids to play inside and out. There’s a kids’ bathroom with 3 sinks, a master bathroom with a soaking tub and 3 showers. The separate ground floor bedroom and bathroom is perfect for a nanny / grandparents / teenager. A supermarket, bakery, coffee house, grocers and butcher are a 5-minute stroll.

Why Kids Love it

The house is ideal for kids – it’s very large, so they can run around and play hide and seek with plenty of nooks and crannies to choose from. There are toys galore for boys and girls for the age range of 4 to 16. In the garden is a trampoline, a table tennis table and outdoor toys. For younger kids there’s Lego, dolls and drawing materials and for older kids and teenagers there’s a small pool table, table football, board games, an electric piano, as well as PlayStation 4 and Netflix. For little ones, a crib and high chair can be provided on request. There are bikes at the property to borrow – why not cycle to the beach?

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Listed rates are for up to 8 guests, inquire for the fee for additional guests. There are ungated stairs to the kitchen and living room on the 1st floor. There are also outside steps from the 1st floor balcony to the garden where young children should be supervised. The owners have 2 sweet and easy-going cats, who live largely outside, but those with allergies should be aware. The house is in a kid-friendly neighborhood and it’s safe to play outside on the street. Parking is on the driveway although you won’t necessarily need a car to get around as public transport is good. The hosts’ bikes (2 adult and 3 child) are available to borrow. The hosts will be there to welcome you; if they can’t a family member will greet you instead. Extra mattresses and duvets are available for additional guests.

Charming Dutch townhouse. This sunny and light family house boasts stunning original details such stained glass, old woodwork, fireplaces, high ceilings and period doors. The house was renovated and redecorated by the host, who also runs an interior design company. The style mixes vintage pieces with color and a love of recycling, and the result is a bohemian and practical home that everyone can feel welcome and cozy in. We love the garden room that has huge windows open to the outside, the outdoor terraces that are all perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the sun; and the wonderful main living space filled with vintage pieces and eclectic wonders.

Hi, together with my husband JJ and our 3 kids (6,9 and 11) we moved 2 years ago from Amsterdam to Haarlem to this beautiful sunny family home. It’s very spacious and we designed and furnished it with lots of love. The area is great with kids. Nature and beach nearby as well as the old city centre with lots of restaurants and boutiques / shops / museums etc. Amsterdam is still very close by. So that makes work and visiting friends very easy. JJ and I are both entrepreneurs. My husband in IT / app developing. And I have my own company Madame Garage which helps people restyle their house and recycle their old furniture. As a family we love traveling and exploring new cultures and experiences with the 5 of us. We are very happy to welcome other families in our home as our guests. You can enjoy every part of it and live as the Dutch (take our bikes and go to the city or to the beach)

Haarlem, The Netherlands

Windmills, wild sand dunes and the country’s best market

This medieval city is just 15 minutes from Amsterdam by train and is full of family-friendly things to do. Start at the Grote Markt on a Saturday, where the country’s finest street market draws in crowds from far and wide, then take a boat tour of the Spaarne River. A cycle trip to the beach via wild and windy sand dunes is another key family-friendly thing to do in Haarlem. And you can’t miss the windmills: Molen (windmill) de Adriaan is said to be one of the best in the country.
