This house is extremely well set up for families, especially those younger children. The spacious living areas are ideal for play time, while the separate bathrooms and ensuites mean that parents can create a sanctuary of their own on the top floor. Parents with a passion for history will love this charming part of the country, which is full of quaint villages, old architecture, and traditional pubs. The pretty village of Chawton (5 minutes’ drive) is the home of Jane Eyre, and you can visit Jane Eyre's historic house and library in this area. Period drama fans may also like to visit Highclere Castle, the property used for depicting the fictional Downton Abbey (40 minutes’ drive).

Why Kids Love it

This home is perfectly suited to families with young children with toys, books, games, and activities spread across the house to keep them entertained. The hosts have a spare bedroom to use as a play room, with a piano for any budding musicians to try. Outside, the garden has a large trampoline, ride-on toys, footballs and a paddling pool for guests to use during their stay. When they’re ready for a day of exploring, visit Alice Holt Forest (15 minutes’ drive) which has play areas, many walks, adventure trails, and bike hire to suit all ages. Also nearby is Birdworld wildlife park (10 minutes’ drive) and further afield, you’ll find family favorites Peppa Pig World and Thorpe Park amusement resort (both 45 minutes’ drive).

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. The property is safe and secure, with a locked private garden which can be accessed directly from the kitchen or through the side of the property. There is space for 2 cars directly outside the house on the private drive - car hire is recommended to explore the wider area but not essential. The house comes with a baby bath, toys, children’s utensils, 2 high chairs, dishwasher, washer/dryer, TV, and WiFi.

About the Location

The house is located in Holybourne, England. It’s less than an hour to Heathrow or Gatwick airports, and around 40 minutes into central London by train or car to Kew Gardens. The residence is situated within 5 minutes of 2 good local playgrounds and parks, as well as a large field directly opposite for ball games and a skate park nearby. There are lots of local footpaths and rural spaces for walking and running, yet it’s also just 10 minutes’ walk to Alton train station for services to London Waterloo. You can also take a train ride on the Watercress Line steam railway, for trips to the beautiful town of Alresford where there are a choice of coffee shops and child-friendly eateries. Nearby, you'll find the very picturesque market towns of Farnham (a 10-minute drive), or Guildford and Winchester (both 25-30 minutes' drive); all of which are great for shopping, coffee stops or general perusing and with at least 1 park or playground for the kids to enjoy. Other family favorites for destinations include a visit to Alice Holt (Forestry Commission) and (further afield) Peppa Pig World, Legoland and Thorpe Park (all 45 minutes' drive away).

Accommodation Details

This residence has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. On the top floor, the primary suite has a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and velux windows. The 2nd bedroom has a midsleeper adult bed with tipi wallpaper (sleeps 1) and ensuite bathroom, and a 3rd bedroom has bunked adult beds (sleeps 2) with shared access to a family bathroom. The final bedroom has a folded small double bed with wallpaper (sleeps 1). The hosts also have 1 travel crib available. Downstairs, there is a large open plan kitchen with breakfast bar and dining table, plus a separate living room. Double doors lead out from the dining area to a private enclosed garden with an outdoor seating area.

The lounge is a space of comfort and sophistication, with a wood-burner, a large Persian rug, fabric sofa, antique oak furniture and a unique pair of antlers above the fireplace to add a nod to the rural location. In contrast, the kitchen is a vibrant, fresh living space - the perfect spot for family meals - centered around a large oak table with a quirky mix of dining chairs for a touch of casual country chic. We love the tonal pops of mustard around the house, the wooden hook run on the wall in the top floor bedroom, and the fun teepee-print wallpaper in the children’s bedroom.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
