Perks for the Parents

This spacious 3-story family home is particularly well set up for a large multigenerational group and is in the heart of Harlem with characterful restaurants and shops on the doorstep. There is a full kitchen and dining table seating up to 12. The master bedroom is on the same floor as the children's room and there are 2 more large bedrooms for grandparents, au pair, older children, etc. on the floor above. It is a great house for kids - it has a lot more space than a traditional NYC apartment and a good selection of good, old fashioned toys are available.

Why Kids Love it

There are plenty of toys including a doll’s house, kitchen set, Lego, tinker toys, lots of art supplies and books and age-appropriate DVDs galore. There is a separate play area down a short flight of steps. There is also a collection of board games, backgammon and cards for older kids and adults. It is 2 blocks from a playground and less than a mile from Central Park. Pack’n’plays and a portable crib, bath toys and umbrella strollers can be provided, along with a baby bath on request. It is very easy to get to Museum of Natural History, The Children's Museum or the Met from this residence.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 nights. The house has a lot of steps but is not fixed with stair gates. They can be added on request. Street parking is very easy on the block outside. Car hire is not essential with good public transportation links in the area. There are lots of child-friendly cafés and restaurants nearby. Two double air beds and a single air bed can be added, along with a crib, travel crib and toddler bed. Please note that the rate on the site is for up to 8 guests staying at the property. There is an additional charge of $50 per person, per night for each guest over 8.

About the Location

The residence is right in the heart of Harlem in a neighborhood filled with interesting restaurants, right around the corner from Marcus Samuelson’s Red Rooster and the famous Sylvia’s, shops and great people. It is 25 minutes from JFK, and less than a mile from Central Park. All subways close by to travel to east or west side.

Accommodation Details

This 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom family home is over 3 stories with an open floor plan on the parlor floor with living room, kitchen and dining area and half bathroom. A back deck with table and chairs leads to a private garden. On the second floor is the master bedroom with bathroom. There is a second full bathroom and kids bedroom with 2 twin beds. The third floor has 2 more large bedrooms and a third full bathroom as well as a washer/dryer. There is a separate play room down a half flight from the main parlor floor.

Style Notes

The home is filled with color and warmth. Large windows, French doors and huge skylights fill the house with light. The furniture is a mix of antiques and more modern pieces. It is comfortable, welcoming and a wonderful place to gather or entertain. We love the slipper bath, the library and the cozy living room.

We are a two mom family (Chelsea and Elizabeth) with ten year old twins, Asher and Beatrice. Prior to having kids, we traveled lots - Paris, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, South East Asia, Japan... We have always loved collecting art from our travels as every day reminders of our adventures. For the ;past several years we have been traveling with the kids -- which has been amazing. We just returned from two weeks in Italy. As a family we love taking in the parks and culture of Manhattan. We spend a lot of time at museums, going to the theater, exploring Central Park, the Botanical Gardens, Coney Island and the Bronx Zoo. We also love a playground. Our block in Harlem has so many lovely families and we often spend times at our neighbors, barbecuing in our back yards or having "Wine without Whining" play dates. We are fortunate to have a big house in NYC and are always hosting friends, artists and family in our home. As a family we enjoy connecting with others. We love dinner parties and sharing conversation over coffee in the mornings. Those moments warm our home. We began renting our house out several years ago during our time away and have enjoyed the experience of sharing our home and NYC with others. Kid and Coe seems a great fit for us as we are pretty "kidded out".

Harlem, Manhattan

DJ sets and double dutch

This part of Upper Manhattan runs from the East River to the Hudson and is known for its treelined brownstone blocks and multicultural community. Stop by the Totally Kid Carousel in Riverbank State Park - it’s the only one in the world designed by kids - or enjoy impromptu concerts, DJ sets and plays in the neighborhood's many parks in the summer.
