This colorful, eclectic house near the Vondelpark is ideal for families and has toys, books and games plus bikes, making it is easy to get around the city. The property is on a quiet street with lots of families nearby, and is approximately 10 minutes from the heart of the city. It is all set up for family visitors and has a large washing machine. There is a swing on the patio and a bijou back yard.

Why Kids Love it

It is packed with toys, books and games and is especially good for those aged under 10, with an atelier for drawing and painting downstairs. There is a swing on the patio, a little kids kitchen and plenty of play spaces through the house. A crib and baby bath are available on request and a stroller can be borrowed. There are playgrounds very close by, along with child-friendly cafés and the Vondelpark. Note there are no stair gates.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 14 days. Note that there are no stair gates and the stairs are steep, as typical in Amsterdam houses. The owners have a cat who is relaxed and loves to be with children and adults alike. Guests are kindly asked to feed him during their stay. Car rentals not necessary with a great and easy to use public transport system in the city, plus bikes provided.

About the Location

The property is in a central location in the kid-friendly Oud West neighborhood of south-central Amsterdam. It is close to trams, central Amsterdam (10-20 minutes), the Vondelpark, museums, playgrounds and child-friendly cafés. There is a children’s farm 5 minutes away by bike and the zoo is a 15-minute bike ride away. Schiphol Airport is 17 minutes away by taxi or 30 minutes by public transport.

Accommodation Details

The house is laid out on 2 floors. On the ground floor there is an open plan living space with kitchen and folding doors to the street, plus play spaces, a patio with swing and garden with artificial turf. The upper floor has a bathroom with bathtub, 1 bedroom with kingsize bed, 1 children’s bedroom with a twin/single bed (an extra bed can be added) and a further children’s bedroom with junior bed.

Style Notes

Eclectic and colorful. The house dates to 1890 and used to be a grocery store. Now remodelled, it is cozy with an open ground floor and plenty of color and eye-catching pieces. It measures 120sqm. The house has featured in many commercials and magazines. We love the sweet pink children’s bedrooms with striking toys and books, the busy kitchen and the unique textiles and color.

We love (boooring) to travel. Like everybody ;-) We love to do home-swapping. We love to see something new every holiday. We love eclectic houses. We love pools. We love to see all the destinations of the world. We love artists houses. We join kid&coe because we've had such good experiences with swapping. But we do prefer kid-friendly places. Not toooo kid-friendly ;-) I am Lisa, my husband is Friedes, our kids are Lucy (2010) and Olive (2013). We also love animals

Helmersbuurt, Amsterdam

Townhouses and juice cafés

This popular family neighborhood in western Amsterdam is a few blocks from the Vondelpark with some streets right on a canal plus cafés, restaurants and yoga studios nearby. It’s easy to walk or cycle to the center of the city along with the museum quarter, and it is a little more urban and edgy than some of the south Amsterdam districts.
