Perks for the Parents

This cozy LA family home has a fun backyard for little ones and is close to top-notch restaurants and shops. It sleeps up to 6 + 2, and would ideally suit 2 adults and up to 3 young kids. For whizzing up family meals, there’s a great kitchen with everything you might need while you watch the kids play outside. Parents will love the luxurious master suite with a waterfall shower and separate entrance opening onto the backyard. Out and about, Highland Park’s eclectic Figueroa Street is a great place for antique finds, pour-over coffee shops and vinyl treasures.

Why Kids Love it

There are plenty of toys and books for children under 10. The comfortable living room is the perfect place for curling up with books or watching a movie. The backyard features climbing ladders, a dirt pit, and a small trampoline. Under 10 minutes’ drive away are multiple parks and playgrounds, plus the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center and highly rated Kidspace Children's Museum with 40 hands-on exhibits, as well as daily interactive activities. A high chair and crib are already set up at the house so you can pack light, and a travel crib is available on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. Please note: the owners have severe allergies and require guests to use unscented products like dish soap and detergent while staying at the house (which are provided), and to refrain from wearing heavy perfume/scents. Safety notes: There are 6 steps leading up to the house and the backyard deck is raised several feet, so babies and toddlers must be supervised. There are no internal stairs to worry about. There is a gas fireplace in the dining room but it does not turn on without a key. A car is recommended to explore LA but not essential as there are local buses. There is parking for 1 car in the driveway and ample street parking.

About the Location

This home is located in a tree-lined residential street in hip Highland Park, one of the top foodie neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It’s a short drive or around 20 minutes’ walk from parks, restaurants and shopping. Figueroa Corridor and York Boulevard, with their eateries and shops, are each a 5-minute drive or bus ride; the bus stops at the corner of the street. The neighborhood of Eagle Rock is 5 minutes in the other direction, with more parks, playgrounds, and eateries. You’ll be 15 minutes’ drive from Downtown LA, Silverlake and Echo Park, 40 minutes from the beach, 15 minutes from Burbank airport and 30 minutes from LAX.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom craftsman bungalow is all on 1 level. The living room and dining room (seating 6) are at the front of the house. Two kids’ bedrooms (1 with a crib and 1 with a bunkbed) connected with a Jack and Jill bathroom with bathtub are off the main room. The chef's kitchen, featuring a Wolf range and marble countertops, are at the other side. At the back of the house is a queensize master suite with an ensuite bathroom with a shower. Off the kitchen is a winding deck looking out onto the backyard, featuring a BBQ, fruit trees, and an outdoor dining room with fireplace.

Style Notes

Cozy and quaint in the city. This historic bungalow has been lovingly cared for and all original woodwork has been restored. The dining room features an Arts and Crafts Batchelder fireplace, and there are original windows and flooring throughout. Mid-century furniture and bohemian touches lend a more modern vibe, and the home features original photographs and artwork. We love the pretty master ensuite, the swing seat on the front porch and the beautiful backyard – the perfect place to dine al fresco and watch the kids have fun.

I live in Los Angeles with my husband and 2 children. We love eating our way through our city and exploring new places.

Highland Park , Los Angeles

One of LA's greatest neighborhoods

Just west of Pasadena, this northeast neighborhood is the place to be in the city right now, whether you’re a young family, a hipster or something inbetween. With fantastic Mexican food, monthly gallery nights and a thriving sense of community, it’s a fun place to stay. Check out York Boulevard’s vintage stores, and treat the kids to fro-yo at Oasis Ice Cream.
