Perks for the Parents
This magical family home in the Hollywood Hills, California features a heated swimming pool, garden meditation hut, and a separate suite for grandparents, teens or a nanny. It sleeps 6 (4 adults and 2 children). This residence is a remote oasis (yet near to the action) with a charming garden and plenty of places to rove and play. Parents will love the privacy of the primary bedroom upstairs, and they’ll find this home is perfect for relaxation and reflection - a Koi Carp pond sets the tone on entry. There’s space for true peace and quiet as well as fun and play; visit the meditation hut in the garden or watch the hummingbirds who come regularly to feed off the flowers which cascade over the house on the terrace. What’s more, guests can drive directly into the carport next to the house on arrival, making it easy to unload all the family equipment and essentials. This space also serves as a vast shady space - perfect for outdoor workouts or yoga sessions (yoga mats are available for guests to borrow). This is also a stunning house for entertaining, with an atmospheric fireplace in the living room and a music system throughout the house and outdoors (or a record player if you prefer), as well as fairy lights in the garden for those enchanting summer evenings.
Why Kids Love it
This house is perfect for parents with young children or babies - you’ll find a whole host of baby essentials here, including a Yo-Yo Zen stroller, 3 high chairs and a baby changing bag. Toddlers will love the hosts’ toys; an indoor teepee lined with cushions, a star-scape projector, abundant books, play kitchen, cuddly toys, games, and trinkets galore. The chalk board walls in the kitchen and guest suite also provide some creative moments. The garden has a sweet (child safe) goldfish pond, which along with the turtles and Koi Carp pond, provide opportunities for children to observe, nurture, and enjoy. The TV room opens out onto the pool, which means children can come in and collapse onto bean bags in front of a film, barely a few feet away from their day in the sunshine. And at the end of the day, they’ll love relaxing in the large spa bath, where they can spend hours in 2 or 3 feet of bubbling foam. Older children or teens can escape to the guest suite if they need their own space, but everyone will love the outdoor space here: the beautiful swimming pool and the wooden, Tardis-like meditation hut which overlooks the sprawling canyon - perfect for a quiet moment or a game of hide and seek.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 30 nights. Please inquire with the hosts about a discounted rate for extended stays of more than 30 nights. The house is child-proofed with baby gates, monitors, and a swimming pool fence. The house is securely gated with private off-street parking - car hire is essential to explore the area. Additional parking is available on the road (not in the shared driveway). Bikes can be stowed in the driveway, or in the carport. There’s a fully operational alarm system and the hosts’ wonderful house manager (who knows the property inside and out) is only a phone call away. There is only one stair case inside the house, which can be closed off with a lockable glass door or with a baby gate on request. There is an external stair case which leads up to the main bedroom and this can also be gated. All the patio doors in the house have locks which are out of reach for children. Young children may need supervision on the owner's bedroom balcony and in some more rugged areas of the garden. The pool is heated in winter (October-May, included in pricing). A housekeeper will clean the house twice per week at no extra charge. Sound travels quickly and is amplified in the canyon, so please be respectful to our neighbors and keep outdoor music at a low level, and turn off poolside music after 6pm. Dinner parties are permitted for up to 8 guests only, but no house parties or events are allowed. Pets may be allowed - check with the hosts when booking.
About the Location
The property is in a prime location off Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, California. It’s around 40 minutes’ drive to LAX airport. While you are close to Hollywood’s thriving, lively, and vibrant community with all its world-class restaurants and fascinating sights, you’ll feel like you are in a remote treehouse sanctuary. The house is 8 minutes’ drive from Hollywood Boulevard in one direction and 10 minutes to the Valley in the other direction - both parts of the city have access to kids’ boutiques, art clubs, pottery, playgrounds and green spaces, as well as spas, supermarkets, and clothing stores. It’s within easy reach of Universal Studios and Warner Brothers Studios (both around 10 minutes’ drive). Take a 2-minute drive up to Jerome C. Daniel overlook for the most spectacular view over the Hollywood Bowl to downtown LA, or visit the neighboring Runyon Canyon for hiking and running in the hills. The beach is around 30 minutes away, where you can cycle along the sands, visit the child-friendly Santa Monica Pier, or wander around the quirky stalls of Venice Beach.

Style Notes
Tranquil hideaway. High above the street, up the long driveway, and through electric gates, this lovely Spanish hacienda is simple and comfortable, with beautiful antique furniture, wooden beamed ceilings, and indoor plants bringing the outdoors in. While this is a beautiful place to bring children, the ambiance and atmosphere is designed for serenity too - there are spectacular views from the upstairs bedroom where parents can finally relax after a long day. The main part of the house is all on one level, so you can keep an eye on your little ones, whether they are in the kitchen while you cook, playing on the terrace, or chilling out in the TV room before bed. The living room features a gas fireplace and 8-foot patio doors, which flood the room with natural light, and all the rooms open to the gardens for a seamless indoor-outdoor feel. The courtyard is a newly refurbished guest suite/office, with a polished concrete floor, chalk board and cork tile wall, together with a fusion of vintage, industrial pieces and new, fresh furnishings. We love the beautiful iron gate which opens onto a Balinese-style external corridor at the entrance, the deep sea blue tiles in the children’s bathroom, and the ‘Restoration Hardware’ Cloud sofa and chaise lounge.
