Perks for the Parents

This 1-bedroom garden apartment with a treehouse feel in the center of Houston’s museum district is within walking distance to the city's zoo, Children’s Museum and other family attractions for an easy car-free stay in the city. Make use of the shady backyard and BBQ for evenings outdoors and unwind in the spacious master bedroom. Guests have access to a home gym in the garage. Bikes are provided and there are good running routes in the area.

Why Kids Love it

Close to the Houston Zoo and museum district with the Children’s Museum and Natural History Museum nearby, the property is conveniently close to the city’s key family attractions. Kids' toys and books can be provided. The fenced garden is a great space with green grass, trees and shade to run and play. A travel crib is available.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 night. There are steep stairs to the outside of the apartment, above a garage, but otherwise the apartment is all on 1 level. The apartment is child-proofed with outlet covers and baby gates available, and the host can provide a travel crib. Car rental recommended but not essential with plenty of attractions a short walk away.

About the Location

This residence is in the university area of Houston, a couple of blocks from Rice University, the Museum District, and Houston Zoo, with Hermann Park less than a mile away. It is a short walk to family-friendly restaurants and the stadium, and a short train ride (1 mile away) to the Children’s Museum and city parks. The residence is 20 minutes from Hobby airport.

Accommodation Details

Located above a garage in a large garden, this “treehouse” apartment includes a contemporary living room, well equipped kitchen with small island and barstools, master bedroom with queensize bed and bath with tub/shower combo. The living room has a sofa bed sleeping 2 and an air bed can be added for further guests. It has access to a patio and garden with BBQ and outdoor dining table and chairs.

Style Notes

Minimalist and clean. This 1970s garden apartment is open, filled with light, and decorated with vibrant accents. Wood laminate flooring, a white kitchen and green focal wall create a bright, simple space. We love the large fenced garden space, treetop views and cozy cowhide rug in the living room.

We love traveling, and in his first six months, our son went to four different states and lived in three different residences (!). We are very active and love running and being outside. Joined Kid & Coe because I saw an article about it in Travel and Leisure and am always looking for child-friendly travel options myself, so thought I would join!

Houston, Texas

For budding astronauts, zookeepers and sailors

H-Town is not short on family attractions. From the zoo to the city’s many museums, there are plenty of ways to entertain the kids. Don’t miss Space Center Houston, NASA’s official visitor attraction, playing with dinosaur bones at Travis Spark Park and boat tours on Buffalo Bayou.
