Perks for the Parents

This apartment in a Belle Epoque villa with a pool is set in an exclusive, private domain of 162 acres overlooking the sea and miles of sandy beaches. Ideal for families with children of all ages, the property is very quiet, even in the middle of summer. The villa itself is a splendid example of 19th century architecture and one of the most beautifully preserved Victorian villas on the coast. Guests rent the private ground floor apartment, which has its own entrance, separate garden, and exclusive use of the large pool and surrounding garden and summer kitchen. Nearby, there is a little restaurant at the local beach, Almanarre, and you can also hire windsurf boards by the hour and enjoy lessons.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of toys and books for children of all ages and is a great family space with 3 different al fresco dining areas. A playing field and 2 excellent tennis courts are a 5-minute walk away. Sandy beaches with windsurfing and sailing are a 5-minute drive away. There are miles of beaches between Almanarre (near the bottom of the hill) and Giens (a little fishing village where you can take a ferry to the islands). In fact, you can walk all the way along the beach to Giens. Toys, CDs, books and games for children of all ages are available, together with a TV with hundreds of English-speaking channels. The dedicated children's room is bright and colourful, and a crib, high chair, baby toys and a baby bath can be provided on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days, 7 days in high season. The private pool has a safety alarm and is set well away from the house, with 4 sun beds, mattresses, parasols, and seating. All linen and towels are provided. There are no steps between the gate and the apartment, which is on one level. There is parking within the grounds of the property. Car rental recommended but not entirely essential. The small galley kitchen is well equipped with a Siemens dishwasher, stainless steel oven and stove, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Mosquitoes are a problem everywhere in the Mediterranean in summer but they are repulsed by moving air so the hosts provide fans for the sitting room and both bedrooms which are very effective. There is a private beach with gated entrance at the bottom of the hill from the house - just take beach cushions as it is pebbly.

About the Location

The residence is set overlooking the sea, close to Hyeres. There are 2 towns nearby with excellent shops and markets, plus a railway station served by the fast TGV train to Paris and a small airport with flights to Nice and Paris airports. There is private gated access to a quiet pebble beach just down the hill from the house. For international flights, the closest airport is Marseille-Provence Airport, 1 hour 30 minutes away, with Nice airport 1 hour 45 minutes away.

Accommodation Details

This apartment has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and is set over 1 floor. One bedroom has a large double bed and the other has 2 twin beds. There is also a living/dining room, a shower room and separate WC, a small kitchen inside and a summer kitchen outside, dining table and chairs. The outside space also includes a private pool 12 x 5m, and large gardens with sun, shade and complete privacy.

Style Notes

Victorian flair. The villa is a splendid example of 19th century Victorian architecture and one of the most beautifully preserved Victorian villas in Hyères. It is listed in the Ministry of Culture’s ‘Inventory of Cultural Heritage’ and is on the websites of the Ministry of Culture. Original architectural features are visible in the bedrooms and the elegant living/dining room has Provençale furniture and an original marble fireplace, along with an extensive library. We love the style and grandeur, paired with easy pleasures of sunshine, swimming and a summer kitchen.

Happy mother of two, I know all the best places for kids -full list provided!

Hyères, French Riviera

The Riviera’s oldest resort

With sandy beaches, watersports and pretty villages within easy reach, Hyères is an ideal location for a Côte d’Azur vacation with the kids. Not as popular as Cannes or St Tropez, it isn’t plagued by quite the same traffic in the summer months either. Explore the medieval old town, learn to kite or windsurf on Almanarre beach or hire a soft top car and explore the area’s villages, beaches and vineyards with the sun on your face.

This little spot in Hyeres was magical. No matter that the mosquitos were slightly aggressive nor that some amenities were rustic. We had an amazing time here and wandering around the region, in particular taking the ferry to Porquerolles and hiking afterwards to Pradeau Plage restaurant on the beach. Alexia was incredibly responsive and had amazing puzzles and games for our daughter (age 4). We can't wait to return.

Alexia’s home – a stunning Villa, exceptionally preserved – is a wonderful place to stay. The view and the feel on the hill is what we were looking for: On the hill with absolute privacy and quietness plus pool but not far away from shops and restaurants as well as the beach. The kids loved it, they could roam about the premises, have a swim, walk to the tennis courts. Alexia is an exceptional host, very discreet (the grounds are really all yours for the time of your stay) but always available if you need anything and – which is not always the case – truly kid friendly – our kids liked “the lady upstairs” right from the start. The apartment is in a very good condition, the second sleeping room is perfect for two kids. All in all: The perfect place if you want all that Côte d’Azur can offer but without the business and glitz and glam of St. Tropez & Co; Hyeres is a wonderful town where you get everything you need with markets, shops (artisan bakery, butcher, fishmonger, you name it), etc. and is within easy reach (by car) from the Villa. See you again soon, Alexia!
