Perks for the Parents

This exquisite light-filled Islington home has space for the whole family, with a wonderful garden, elegant living rooms and playgrounds a short walk away. The house is very family-friendly with ample toys and a dedicated play area for children. The kitchen and dining area is adjacent to the play area so you can cook, dine and relax whilst the kids amuse themselves. The garden has a mix of flowers, fruit trees and a vegetable patch: there is lots to explore outside as well. The master bedroom is on the top floor and has a kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom with a soaking tub.

Why Kids Love it

The house has lots of toys aimed at children ages 0-5. There are books (most in English, some in German and French), and a large play area with train sets, puzzles, animals, blocks etc. Other toys include a ride on car, a balance bike and a scooter. There are several lovely playgrounds close by, as well as cafés, shops and a puppet theatre. The children's bedroom is bright and welcoming, and has a double layer of blackout blinds to ensure it is dark for daytime naps. Baby-related accessories include 2 Stokke Tripp Trapp high chairs, 2 cribs, a baby bouncer and an extra travel cot.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 week. The house is set over 4 floors and does not have stair gates, so for kids just crawling, walking or not used to making their way down stairs, extra supervision will be needed. There are 2 beehives on the terrace on the first floor, so this isn't something to explore with young children; the bees do not bother people and are not active in winter months. A double air bed may be available on request. Car rental may be useful but it is not essential with easy public transportation in the neighborhood running across the city. Uber or Black Cabs arrive quickly when hailed by app. Parking permits can be arranged for £20/day. It is a popular area for families and many children live on the street. The host offers a reduced rate for stays of 10 days or more.

About the Location

The residence in Islington, a short bus ride away from Angel or Highbury and Islington tube stations. There are many bus stops nearby that connect it to The City, Oxford Street / Soho and Central London, as well as buses north to Stoke Newington (known for its family-friendly high street and parks). The closest overground station is Canonbury. It is within walking distance of Upper Street and trendy Dalston in the other direction. Gatwick and Heathrow airports are both just over an hour’s drive away; Stansted and Luton airports are 1 hour away by car/taxi.

Accommodation Details

This Victorian terrace is set over 4 floors and has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 1 WC. It has 2 large open plan living areas (one of which can be converted into a screened-off extra bedroom with a double bed), and a spacious kitchen which looks onto a terrace and garden. There is plenty of space for kids to play. The bedrooms include 1 with kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom at the very top of the house, 1 with kingsize bed and 1 with a single bed. There is also a double sofa bed in the lounge. The ensuite has a bath tub. The lawned garden includes a patio with seating and a planted, grassy area.

Style Notes

Modern delight. This gorgeous Victorian terrace has been remodelled to include light-filled contemporary touches, Mid Century furniture and luxury touches. Glamorous bathrooms include a deep soaking tub; the pale and interesting open plan living rooms have great flow for families, and the beautiful garden is an idyllic place to play. The hosts enjoy cooking and hosting friends so the kitchen is large and spacious with modern appliances including an Italian 'Rocket' coffee machine. Underfloor heating keeps it all cozy. We love the neutral colors, the beautifully-chosen kids items and the subtle Nordic-influenced lighting.

Hello! We are a family of one Austrian, one Australian, and two little girls. We love to travel and show our children different ways of life.

We couldn't have had a nicer week at this beautiful property. My children loved all the toys and the wonderful garden. A lot of care has gone in to making things special for guests which was much appreciated. Nothing was overlooked. The property is very well located and the hosts a pleasure to deal with. We would come and stay again in a heartbeat. Thank-you for sharing your lovely home - a very special space.

Our stay at Ockenden Road was beyond incredible – an absolutely beautiful home in a great neighbourhood with plenty of style, character and comfort...so much so our 2-year old was in new-toy-heaven and didn't want to leave. Lucinda and her family really cared for us from the moment we arrived – we'll definitely be back again as it's by far the best home rental experience we've ever had.

First thing's first: our kids slept well. That's what really matters! They loved all the books and toys. House was gorgeous and clean and really made you feel like you were living in London. In a great neighborhood with fun cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants. Walk or short bus ride away from some truly amazing playgrounds. It was a great place to come home to after a long day of sight seeing. Owners left a very extensive book about the house and area that answers all questions; they made great suggestions. Long story short, i can't recommend this house enough, especially as a location to be based when visiting London.

We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful property. Lots of space for our family of 5 and the most beautiful collection of wooden toys that my girls loved playing with! Would highly recommend

We had such a lovely stay at Lucinda's beautiful house...it was truly a joy to stay in such a gorgeous space. The interiors are absolutely stunning, we felt like we were on holiday just by staying in! My son loved all the wooden toys and was the quietest I've known him without the need for tv! The house is also very well located with local shops and restaurants nearby or just a train or bus ride away from central London. I'd highly recommend a stay here if you're coming to London with the family. Thanks so much Lucinda!

Islington, London

Boutiques, bars and Ottolenghi

This desirable North London suburb has great family appeal. A short hop on the Tube from Central London, it’s a great location for a family break in the city, with a buzzing high street, interesting shops and cafés down Camden Passage, and Regent’s Park and London Zoo nearby too.
