Perks for the Parents

This compact, lovingly-renovated cottage, sleeping 2-4, is one of the oldest cottages in the north of Kefalonia and has a private pool. A short drive from glamorous Fiskardo, it is also walking distance from the beach and local shops and tavernas. Inside, the decor is rustic chic, with whitewashed ceilings and original stone walls. Outside a large flower-filled terrace has views of the gardens and sea. Concierge service available with perks including private chefs, boating trips and in-villa beauty services. It can be booked with its sister cottage, The Lime Residence, to sleep 10-12 people in total.

Why Kids Love it

The property is a 30-minute walk/10 minute drive from the nearest beach and has space to play around it. There is a private pool. Note that it is better for children over 5 - there are some stairs and drops that do not suit toddlers and crawling babies. A crib and high chair are provided. Breakfast on the patio is fun under the sail, drinking fresh local juice and eating freshly baked bread, as is dinner with a view of the sea. A baby bath is available on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights but short breaks may be possible on request. We would recommend it for families with children over 5 ideally - there are hazards for crawling babies and toddlers: ungated stairs, non-toddler safe balcony, no pool gate and steps and gravel paths not compatible with strollers. Note that the bedroom is separated from the living room by a curtain. There is a mid-week cleaning service and the pool is cleaned once a week and more when needed. Extra cleaning can be arranged for a fee. Cleans include a full linen and towel change. Amenities include ironing facilities, hairdryer and a beach umbrella. There is no wheelchair access. This property has an EOT Licence No: MHTE 0458k 91000 473 401.

About the Location

The residence is near the town of Fiskardo in Kefalonia. The nearest beach is a 30-minute walk away; others are 10 minutes away by car. There are 2 traditional tavernas within a 10 minute walk and the closest shops are in Fiskardo, 10 minutes away by car. Kefalonia Airport is the closest, 1 hour 20 minutes away; there are some direct flights from Europe but commonly guests may need to fly to Athens and take a connecting flight. Car rental is recommended but not essential, as there are beaches, cafes and tavernas in walking distance. There is a private parking area. Management of the properties are based in the same village. The owners offer a full concierge service including private boat hire, excursions, massage and tailormade yoga classes all bookable prior to your holiday or in resort.

Accommodation Details

This cottage has 1 bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed bed that sleeps 1 adult/child in the living area. A camp bed can be added on request. The bedroom is reached up a small flight of steps from the kitchenette/living space and is separated by a curtain. There is a ceiling fan and air conditioning in the bedroom for spring/summer. The bathroom is small but modern with a luxurious large shower head, but no bath.

Style Notes

Modern Greek. This is a stylish take on the quintessential Greek cottage, with whitewashed walls, exposed stonework and bougainvillea growing on the terrace. The kitchenette is contemporary and the living space has a flatscreen TV, DVD player, library and wraparound sound system. The terrace has views of the sea and gardens filled with flowers. The aspect is west facing so there is a fantastic view of the sunset over the sea.

Well… what a perfect week we had at Fig Cottage! I am certainly very sad to be back home and just wanted to let you know how thrilled we were with everything – the villa itself, the grounds, the location – all just wonderful. We had great weather and even a dramatic thunder storm with torrential rain one morning! We will definitely be coming back – and may well look at Lime House and bring our two boys along next time. Fiskardo was a real treat and the beaches we went to breakthtaking .. Only two very minor points – the directions were great up until the last part of the journey, when we got lost and spent more than half an hour going round in circles! There is a bit of a gap between point 20 on the directions, with no idea of how far mileage wise it is until you reach Maganos – and then there was no sign on the road directing us left to Fig Cottage. But we rang the lovely James and he kindly came and we followed him there. Also, only because of the torrential rain, there was water coming through the tiny square window on the wall above the bed (opposite your head – facing the orchard) – that leaked on to the top marble stair – but this wasn’t a problem – just for your reference… And finally, the feather pillows were very much appreciated and we slept like babies – thank you!

Kefalonia, Greek Islands

Poppy fields and hidden beaches

The largest of the Ionian islands in western Greece, Kefalonia is a paradise island for families. It’s all about the white sand beaches, picnics in poppy fields and boat trips to hidden beaches. Visit the glamorous town of Fiskado in the north, go snorkelling in the clear water or hike in the hills.
