Perks for the Parents

Set on one of Kensington’s iconic garden crescents, this elegant period townhouse is a peaceful oasis with world-class museums and the Knightsbridge department stores on the doorstep. It sleeps 4. A light, airy apartment which combines fresh, modern features with period character to create an ideal home away from home. The master bedroom benefits from a kingsize bed and an ensuite with a bathtub for additional privacy and relaxation. The residence’s location is hard to beat with many of west London’s treasures just a stone’s throw away. The luxury department stores of Harrods and Harvey Nichols are less than 10 minutes’ walk from the front door, while in the other direction, the V&A, Natural History and Science museums can be reached in just 5 minutes. For those craving some green space, Hyde Park with its grassy acres, boating lake, Serpentine gallery and seasonal calendar of alfresco events is just a short walk north.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love this central city base, with wide pavements and shady, tree-lined streets surrounding their vacation home, perfect for scooters and bikes. Although there are no toys at the residence itself, kids will be more than compensated by the treasure trove of museums – including interactive Natural history and Science exhibits – on their own doorstep, meaning they can beat the crowds by arriving early and leaving later. It’s just a 15-minute walk to Hyde Park with acres of green space, playgrounds and a lake where you can hire pedalos. Keep a look out for seasonal events such as the festive winter wonderland with its fair ground and ice rink and summer music concerts which be of interest to older kids and teens. Kensington palace and gardens can also be accessed via Hyde Park; younger ones will find hours of fun at the Diana Memorial playground there with its pirate ship, sandpits and water play.

Style Notes

Garden crescent elegance. This historic redbrick townhouse is one of London’s most exclusive addresses, exuding period style inside and out. Large windows bathe the apartment with natural light while the mature trees on the street provide natural shade as well as an appealing view. Light wooden flooring and high ceilings with plaster detailing combine with modern marble bathrooms to provide a calm and comfortable home. Large canvases and line drawings add color and style while the light modern kitchen has generous counter space, and double ovens which makes cooking a joy. We love the generous sash windows which look out towards the tree lined gardens, with the glass dining table creating the perfect place from which to sip a morning coffee and watch the world go by.

Kensington & Chelsea, London

Hyde Park, Harrods and Her Majesty

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has a certain cachet. It’s where you’ll find Buckingham Palace, Sloane Square, the King’s Road, Harrods and many of the most upmarket stores and areas of the city. For kids, Hyde Park is a must-do, whether you go boating on the Serpentine on summer or enjoy the kid-friendly cafés around it. It’s a central area very well connected with the rest of the city by bus and Tube.
