Perks for the Parents

This character-packed penthouse apartment in a fun part of Berlin is all set up for families with toys for kids, restaurants, parks and public transit nearby, and a sunny terrace to enjoy. In a highly walkable part of the city, the residence is directly across from Markthalle IX, which sells local produce, organic meat, homemade ice cream, and has many events throughout the year. It also features a small indoor play area with all wooden toys, so it is a great place to go with children in bad weather! To make travel with kids easy, this apartment has a washer and dryer (not always the case in Berlin!) The large kitchen overlooking the living room and dining room is a great place for family dinners.

Why Kids Love it

The apartment is kitted out with a high chair, a changing pad in the nursery, lots of English and French children’s books, as well as toys and stuffed animals. The terrace is a great place to hang out and has a swing for a grown up (or young child) and a smaller swing for a baby aged 9 months to 2 years. The owners have a young child and current have a crib; they will soon also get a toddler bed, so please confirm your requirements on booking. Baby spoons, plastic cups and all the items you need for young children are on offer. A stroller, high chair, or baby bouncer can be added upon request.

Nearby you will find restaurants, bars, a farmer’s market across the street, public transportation, and parks. The walkability score is a 96 - it’s a 'walkers paradise'. Kreuzberg is a 35-minute taxi ride from Schoenefeld airport and 25 minutes from Tegel airport. Car rental is not essential in this neighborhood. It takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the tourist heart of Berlin by public transport.

Accommodation Details

This 3 bedroom apartment has a large open dining room/living room/ kitchen space. There are 3 terraces, including a very large one with a swing, a grill, a large table (seats 8) and the option to hang a hammock. There is a master bedroom with queensize bed, a double bedroom with double sofa bed and a child's bedroom with a crib that can also accommodate either an inflatable double mattress or a toddler bed. A further double sofa bed is also available.

Style Notes

Modern eclectic. The apartment is very bright and colorful with lots of plants and quirky touches. Outdoor plants have an automatic watering system in the summer, so they do not require maintenance but are always looking grand. Inside, there are wooden floors and the main open plan living space is inviting, with beautiful lights, a modern dining table and space to play. You can’t escape the plants in either bathroom, where they drape over the shower and around the bath with a tropical feel. We love the personality and warmth of this lovely home.

My husband, three kids and I live in Berlin, Germany and like to travel as much as we can. We rent our place whilst we are away and we treat every place we stay as if it were our own. We love the outdoors and nature, hiking, camping, being near water, and cooking. When we are in Berlin, I work as a neuroscientist, my husband as a programmer, and my kids as a bulldozing noise machines. I publish under Tally McCormick Miller.

Kreuzberg, Berlin

East meets west

Known affectionately as 'X-Burg' or 'Kleine Istanbul' by the locals, Kreuzberg straddles what was once the line between East and West Berlin. With eclectic restaurants, coffee shops, dramatic street art and nightlife, it’s a vibrant place to stay. Haggle at an authentic Turkish bazaar, explore the many excellent restaurants and shops along trendy Bergmannstrasse and Oranienstrasse, or pack a picnic and take in live music at Görlitzer Park.
