Perks for the Parents

This family-friendly apartment in a house near the shores of Lake Como gives you the best of both worlds: located in the authentic Italian village of Barni, there are plenty of charming Italian secrets to uncover, but it is also close to the blockbuster luxury tourist destination of Bellagio, where everything you need is available. What to do? Relax, go hiking, swim in the lake and explore the picture-perfect nature all around you. The house is spacious, bright and cozy and ideal for 1 or 2 families traveling together. The host can offer personal recommendations about what to do nearby with kids, from lakefront beaches to hiking trails, local restaurants and mountain huts. The property sleeps up to 8 in total.

Why Kids Love it

With plenty to offer the kids, from toys and books in the apartment to a garden packed with balls, play houses and equipment, the house is fully kid-tested and well set up for family fun. In the evening, deer often come and eat nearby. Those traveling with children under 4 will find everything they need, including 2 cribs for toddlers, 2 cribs for babies, a high chair, kid-friendly crockery and cutlery, a potty, a step for the sink, a toddler backpack and a baby bath. There is a nice playground in the village, a track for little bikers and countryside filled with horses and cows, ideal for relaxing walks. In the nearby town of Erba, there is a very big inflatable indoor area for kids, excellent for rainy days. Nearby attractions for kids include local farms, ski areas, boat trips, watersports and more.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 6 days. The apartment has a private entrance and is on the ground floor, on 1 level. Note for those with allergies, the owner has two friendly cats who may be in the garden, kids are welcome to pet them. Note that the heating incurs an extra fee and should be settled by cash at the departure. You will pay only what you will use. Heating is generally only used between September and May. The garden is enclosed; there are a few stone steps in the garden. The kitchen has a radio, fridge, microwave, kettle and plenty more. The washing machine is in the laundry in the ground floor. WiFi is available in the whole house and garden. Car hire is recommended to get the most of the local area, but much nearby, including main services, can be reached without one.

About the Location

The residence is in the village of Barni in the hills of Lake Como, a short walk from the trattoria (which offers take away), bar, bakery, post office and grocery stores. It is a 10-minute drive from Bellagio, ‘the pearl of Lake Como’, on the shores of Lake Como and there is a bus service between the 2; taxis can also be arranged. There are plenty of walks to be taken directly from the property to mountains with lovely views of the lake and also mountain bike tours nearby. In the nearby village there is a Jungle Raider Park and a bike Museum and an e-Bike renting point. The closest airports are Milan Malpensa (1 hour 10 minutes), Milan Linate (1 hour 20 minutes) and Bergamo Orio Al Serio (1.5 hours).

Accommodation Details

This large ground floor apartment has 2 large bedrooms, each set up with a double bed and a bunk bed. Cribs for babies and toddler bed options (1 for kids up to 3 and 1 for kids 3-5) are available on request. There is a sofa bed in the largest bedroom. The large living room has a big sofa and TV and there is a kitchenette, bathroom with hydromassage shower, garden and outdoor dining area. There is free private parking.

Style Notes

Bright and cheerful. The rooms are spacious and all the furniture is Italian style. The large living room table was made by a local artisan. The furniture and double beds date to the beginning of the 19th century; the bathroom is modern and has a big and relaxing hydromassage shower. We love the play spaces for kids and the welcoming kitchen.

Hi, my name is Elisabetta but my friends call me Betty. Mum of one child, I live in the Como area, in a little and friendly village close to Bellagio. I'm optimistic, energetic and joyful. Job wise I’ve always been involved in marketing, communications, and PR while my recent passion is to wear a red nose and become a "social clown" in the hospital ward to amuse the children and the elderly. I strongly believe in friendship and solidarity, I love walking in nature, iceskating, rollerblading and snowboarding, I also love traveling and discover old villages and new places, cooking and having guests. A sentence that represent myself is: "ALIVE and SHARE." I like to "live" and "share" emotions, experiences and places. When I discover a “magic” place I enjoy sharing it with friends and guests!

Lake Como, Italian Lakes

Speed boats, pizzerias and lakeside views

Lake Como has hit the headlines as a celebrity spot, full of film stars, rock stars and blockbuster villas. Beside the glitz and glamour, you’ll find plenty of family fun from speed boats to hire to lakeside pizzerias for lazy lunches and the Como/Brunate funicular for vertiginous views of the deep blue lake.

We had a fantastic 6 nights in this great local spot. Elisabetta is a wonderful host, full of useful local tips and very happy to help with anything. We dined locally with fantastic views several times and had experiences I don't think we'd have found ourselves. Elisabetta was also very helpful with information regarding my sons multiple food allergies and provided lots of thoughtful touches, change mat, chance to do laundry, extra towels and plenty of toys for the kids (1yr and 5 yr) to dip into. There is a steep drive up to the property but a beautiful rural like setting, close to the bush and they have friendly horses and lots of outdoor dining spots for al fresco.
