About the Location

This residence is on the waterfront of Lake Snagov in the small village with the same name. The lake offers a natural distraction and entertainment both in the warm and in the cold seasons. During summers swimming, paddling and boating are popular activities; in the winter the lake is frozen and becomes a natural ice rink for skating, sledging, and walking. The nearby forests are good for bike riding and local equestrian clubs offer horseback riding trips.

I greatly enjoy beautiful properties in great surroundings around the world. Buildings have stories to share about the place, and living for a while in a lived-in space, helps tell the story. I was brought up in Romania, Germany and in the US. I relocated back to Romania more than 10 years ago. My three kids (11, 9, 4) enjoy greatly our lake house in Snagov, Ilfov, Romania. We named the lake house Larchwhite because of the four Canadian Larch trees that we found on the property. A charming place in a serene setting. I found that if you name Bucharest a paradox, then you could name this house a statement.

Lake Snagov, Bucharest

Cycling, boating and the supernatural

Around 40km north of Bucharest, the beautiful woods and lake itself are ideal for family bike rides and boat trips in this, one of Romania’s most beloved countryside areas. Superstitious parents might like to pack some garlic in their luggage - the region is best known for its monastery, one of the alleged burial sites for Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
