Perks for the Parents

This warm and bright family home has plenty of space to play and a lawned garden and is in the countryside around 15 minutes from the center of Amsterdam in the northern suburb of Landsmeer. It is a family-oriented area with all the shops you need within walking distance (including an ice-cream parlor) and the national park 'Het Twiske', with beautiful scenery. The house and garden are fully kidproof, with toys, stairgates, high chairs and children's beds. The garden has grass for playing, an inflatable pool for cooling down, many toys and a fence at the waterside. The fireplace is great on a cold night.

Why Kids Love it

There are plenty of toys and Dutch books for kids under 5 throughout the entire house. The light family room is spacious enough for wheeled toys. The largest children's room has a tipi-tent and toddler bed; the other children’s bedroom has a crib. Kids love the garden which has space to run and an inflatable pool. Het Twiske nearby has beaches and playgrounds while the nearby outdoor swimming pool, 5 minutes’ walk away, has a toddler pool. A 45-minute drive takes you to 'Sprookjeswonderland', an fairytale amusement park suitable for small children. Bikes for adults (1 male, 1 female) with children's seats plus a walking toddler bike and a pink bike with training wheels are available.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. There is room for 2 cars on the driveway. There is a stair gate at the top of the stairs, but not at the bottom. The residence backs on to a canal but has a gate to prevent easy access to it in the garden. Car rental useful but not essential; the village is highly walkable and there are good public transportation links to Amsterdam and beyond. The area is 20 minutes by car from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

About the Location

Landsmeer is a small family friendly village with all shops and conveniences within walking distance. It has easy public transport links to Amsterdam, with a bus leaving every 10 minutes from a nearby stop, taking 15 minutes to reach the heart of the city. For nature lovers, national park 'Het Twiske' is a true joy. Great for hiking, cycling, swimming (lots of beaches) and playing (many great nature playgrounds).

Accommodation Details

This 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom house is split over 2 floors and includes a green garden by the water. It has a fully equipped open kitchen with dining table at the front and light large living space including annex on the back. There are sliding doors to the garden, which has 2 terraces: one facing south and one facing west, so there is always a sunny and a shadowy spot to be found till about 20:00. Also on the ground floor, there is a study, a bedroom with fold out queensize bed, and bathroom with shower. Upstairs there is a spacious master bedroom with queensize bed, 2 children's bedrooms suitable for infant and toddler and a beautiful bathroom with shower and bath.

Style Notes

Bright, light, warm, authentic and colorful. There is a pleasant mix of modern and classic furniture with white walls, wide planked floorboards and plenty of color. The kitchen and bathrooms are brand new but contain some old materials such as antique tiles. We love the open plan layout, ideal for a family, the pretty design details, including hanging plants and carefully chosen art, and the riotous floral wallpaper in the toddler bedroom.

We are the Krull family: Leontien, Bart and our three girls Doris (January 2013), Guusje (August 2014) and Babet (April 2017). In 2016, we moved from Amsterdam to Landsmeer - seeking more space, green surroundings and a garden and it turned out to be one of the best decisions ever. Landsmeer is a small, friendly village with nice people, all the shops you need and a beautiful National Park (Het Twiske) at walking distance. Plus: Amsterdam is so close! Fifteen minutes by bus or car, thirty by bike. Who could ask for more?

Landsmeer, Outside Amsterdam

Green spaces and a national park

Just to the north of Amsterdam, Landsmeer is a countrified village with green spaces, canals running alongside wide, peaceful streets and a fantastic park, Het Twiske, on its doorstep. Play in its playgrounds, swim at lake beaches and explore Amsterdam in an easy day trip - it's just 15 minutes away by bus.

We had a totally dreamy stay at Leontien and her family's place outside of Amsterdam. From start to finish our interactions with Leontien were great: she was super responsive through email before we booked and once we had booked and the trip was getting close we connected via Whatsapp, where she sent me updated photos of the flat and garden and gave us some useful information about the house. Throughout our stay she was also super responsive to Whatsapp messages when I had questions or couldn't find things in the house. The house itself is adorable; it's roomy and well-designed, full of cool toys and well-equipped for a fun family holiday. Our 3 year-old loved the bedroom with the lofted bed -- she told me she was so happy to have a grown up bed "for the first time ever!". The garden is lush and beautiful, even in the heat of August. We loved biking around Landsmeer and the large park, 'et Twiske that is nearby. We would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you again, Leontien and family, for a wonderfully relaxing holiday!
