An architect-designed house with a backyard lake and great kids rooms, located just a short trip from Amsterdam in Landsmeer. It sleeps 5-6. This beautiful family home is perfect for every season: cozy up in the spacious living room with a lovely fireplace in winter, or stay in summer and walk straight out into the gorgeous garden to doze in the shady spots or swim in the water. Explore the nearby nature reserve on the host’s bikes or head into the city for a day out exploring Amsterdam’s amazing museums and attractions for kids.

Why Kids Love it

The house is perfect for kids, especially those over 8. They can jump on the SUP board or go for a swim directly from the garden (if you’re lucky, a family of swans may swim by during your stay), play some basketball in the park at the end of the street, borrow the host’s bikes and visit the best cultural and sportive activities in Amsterdam. Families can end the day with dinner on the terrace of a restaurant and an ice cream from the local ice cream shop just 5 minutes away on foot.

Things to Know

Minimum stay 2 nights. Safety notes: the host’s children are aged 8 and 11, so younger kids and toddlers should be supervised. The garden is directly bordering water with no fence and there are no stair gates. Parking is available but car rental is not essential as the public transport is reliable and efficient in this area. Guests can borrow bikes and stand-up paddle boards during their stay.

About the Location

Families will love this child friendly neighborhood, in Landsmeer on the outskirts of Amsterdam. This quiet area is full of nature and opportunities for hiking, cycling and outdoor play, yet all facilities for a family are available in the nearby village: 2 supermarkets, shops, restaurants and even an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts, all within a 5-minute walk. It’s 10 minutes by bike/bus/car to the Metro station, which takes you to the heart of Amsterdam in 2 stops (15 minutes journey). If you travel 10 minutes in the other direction, you’ll reach the beautiful Dutch countryside. Paddle the SUP board to the local lake in 5 minutes or explore the national park at the end of the street; 'Het Twiske'.

Accommodation Details

The house has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, set over 2 floors. You’ll find a spacious open kitchen, living room with fireplace, and a glass extension with a large dining table. From the dining table you’ll have a view of the spacious green garden with both a sunny bench and a shaded area with an outdoor dining table under the pergola, right on the water. Upstairs on the first floor, the bathroom has a walk-in shower and freestanding bathtub. The primary bedroom boasts a walk-in closet and queensize bed, while the 2 children's bedrooms have raised single beds (1 of which also has a sofa bed which sleeps 1 adult or 2 kids).

Style Notes

Black is back. This architect-designed home is noted by locals and friends as the most beautiful house on the best spot in town. Fully renovated a few years ago and extended into a modern spacious designed home, it has a breathtaking view through a 7-meter-wide glass sliding door at the back of the house, which makes the house and the garden fully connected on sunny days. Despite the light flooding in from windows and doors, the hosts have chosen contemporary black furnishings for a modern, industrial edge. We love the super sleek all-black kitchen, the contemporary wall art and the cleverly extended kitchen island.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.

We are a Dutch family with 2 girls Lou (2012) and Jules (2015). In our spare time we like to be active. We all play tennis at the tenniscourt at walking distance from our home. Our kids also play basketball and hockey. We are still trying to convince the kids that hiking is fun :-). Our last holidays were skiing in the Alps and sailing in Croatia. Visiting museums is something we all like to do and as the kids grow older we would like to make more city trips and travel outside Europe. In our work as a fashion marketing teacher and at a digital agency we have a passion for design and art.

Just to the north of Amsterdam, Landsmeer is a countrified village with green spaces, canals running alongside wide, peaceful streets and a fantastic park, Het Twiske, on its doorstep. Play in its playgrounds, swim at lake beaches and explore Amsterdam in an easy day trip - it's just 15 minutes away by bus.
