Perks for the Parents

This bright townhouse with colorful bedrooms and a spacious lounge is 16 miles from the nearest beach and a short drive from Peniche. WiFi, a fire place for colder nights and a large, fully equipped family kitchen are all included. There are 2 adult bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, 1 with a bath and 1 with a shower. The garden has a barbecue and a outside table. Attractions nearby include medieval villages, beaches and the city of Lisbon, just over an hour away.

Why Kids Love it

This house has colorful bedrooms, including a Hello Kitty-themed bedroom for children with bright pink bedlinen and a 4-poster bed; there is also a cabin/loft bed in the attic with a slide. Kids can play in the safe garden at the back of the house. The beaches on the west coast of Portugal are sandy and great for surfing and surf lessons. There is an international chocolate festival held every year in Obidos, a nearby village, in March/April.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights during autumn/winter, 5 nights during spring/summer. There are 2 ungated stairways in the house - younger children may need supervision as they are steep. Note that the attic bedroom is reached by stairs and is for kids but the stairs are not gated so it is not recommended for toddlers. Supervision may be needed on the top floor balcony. Pets are not allowed. Car rental strongly recommended; the best way to reach local beaches and to reach the property is by car.

About the Location

The residence is in Caldas da Rainha, just under 30 minutes inland from Peniche in western Portugal. The west coast of the country is known for its culture and beaches - Peniche is a surf hot spot and is only 25 minutes away. The nearest beach is a 16-minute drive away. The medieval village of Obidos is a 15-minute drive away and has a chocolate fair and Christmas Village every year. The medieval monastery, Mosteiro de Alcobaça, is also nearby. The closest airport is in Lisbon, just over an hour’s drive away.

Style Notes

Sun-filled and bright. This light, bright and modern house has colorful rooms and simple, tasteful decor. Items including an old sewing machine on the staircase and a colorful woven basket on the dining table bring a little Portuguese quirky style to the property. Main living spaces are largely white and simple while the children’s bedrooms are full of life and color. We love the easy-going style.

I'm Célia and I live in Hamburg, Germany. I have 2 children. Every chance I get i travel to my home country, Portugal, with which I'm deeply in love with. But since most time of the I live in Hamburg, and since my house is a place where a family can stay very comfortably, and have fun holidays, I decided to be a host at Kid & Coe.

Ancient castles and active vacations

North of Lisbon, this area of west-central Portugal is bursting with surf beaches, medieval villages, ancient crenellated castles and charming markets. Drink coffee in pretty squares, make sandcastles on beaches and get active with hikes, surfing, paddleboarding and more. Obidos is a must-see for its castle, Peniche is the spot for big wave surfers and Nazaré has much-beloved beaches.
