This serene woodland retreat has everything you need for a family stay and is set within 6 acres of total privacy. It sleeps up to 11 + 2 (6 adults and 2 children in beds). The house is tucked away and set back far from the road so the kids can roam free. Walk down the path to the river for a swim or take the little ones to hunt for crawfish. The chef’s kitchen is well equipped with premium appliances including a Nespresso machine for your morning cup. Nearby, there are wineries to visit including Hopkins Vineyard and Sunset Meadow Vineyards for wine sampling and vineyard views.

Why Kids Love it

The hosts have young children and the house is perfectly set up with childproof baby gates at the stairs and playrooms. There are tons of toys and books for little ones and babies. The nursery features 2 twin / single beds and a crib but there’s a Pack ‘n’ Play available if required, and 2 highchairs. Each bathroom features a large tub for bath time. Outdoor toys include a water table, baby pool, hammock and playground. Meanwhile, older kids will love the free-range aspect with nature to get stuck into including the forest and the river.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. For those with allergies please note that the owners of the property have a dog. Safety notes: There is a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs, but older kids could climb between the rungs on the banister and get past the gate with little effort. For parents who like to keep fit, a WaterRower rowing machine and weights are available for guest use. A travel crib is available for an additional baby or toddler and a double airbed and single airbed can accommodate an additional 3 guests.

About the Location

This woodland residence is about 10 minutes‘ drive to shops and wineries in Litchfield, Connecticut and approx. 2 hours’ drive from New York City. It’s set back about 1/4 mile into the woods down a long private driveway. The drive opens to a clearing where the house sits atop a hill that slopes down to the Marshepaug River. Swim in the river or at one of the nearby public beaches in summer or drive 15 minutes to Mohawk Mountain for skiing in winter. Litchfield is a picturesque town with a great farmer's market, cute shops and restaurants. Bantam, Washington Depot, and New Preston are close by.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on 2 floors. The 1st floor features a living room with a unique 4-sided fireplace, a dining room for 8, and a fully equipped kitchen with a BlueStar stove and modern appliances. There’s also a TV room/playroom, and 2 queensize guest rooms. One has an ensuite bathroom and the other has direct access to a full bathroom that also serves as the powder room for the 1st floor. The 2nd floor features the primary queensize suite and a nursery / playroom with 2 twin / single beds and a crib. The grounds feature a deck with outdoor furniture, a BBQ grill, mature perennials, and 6 acres of land. The all-weather garage features a washer / dryer and utility sink.

Style Notes

Modern rustic. The space exudes calm with pale oak floors combined with white walls and contemporary furniture. The décor is simple and elegant with a pale pink sofa and white armchair in the living room in front of a large picture window with views of the trees. The bathrooms are modern with white or pink vanities and black taps. Neutral colors and wood furniture don’t detract from the natural beauty outside. We love the open living space with large windows, the cozy fireplace for curling up next to in the winter, and the fabulous playroom that little ones will adore.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
