A beautiful countryside residence set in landscaped Mediterranean gardens with a heated swimming pool, a natural swim pond and breathtaking views of the Luberon national park. It sleeps 20 + 2. An ideal vacation base for a large multi-generational family gathering, or several groups, with 5 ensuite bedrooms, 2 kids’ bed/play rooms and plenty of space inside and out for everyone. Huge, elegant terraces offer the perfect relaxation spot for tired parents with sun loungers, alfresco dining and panoramic mountain views. The residence is fully fenced for extra peace of mind. There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained with 2 pools to choose from, a billiards table, TV lounge, a kids’ den, and a pétanque pitch for those keen to try out a local sport. You can walk to the local bakery in Vaugines, and one of the prettiest Luberon villages, Lourmarin, is a short drive away with a thriving foodie scene and an excellent variety of cafes and restaurants offering everything from fresh local fare to Michelin star tasting menus. The host can help arrange a babysitter on request.
Why Kids Love it
Kids can run free-range here with spacious gardens to roam and plenty to discover, including a boules pitch for outdoor family games nights. Water babies of all ages will enjoy splashing – or swimming lengths – in the heated pool, while the natural pond with its wooden jetty provides a picturesque cold-water alternative for the adventurous. Inside, there are 2 kids’ bedrooms set up sleep-over style with multiple single beds and a fantastic den area. Nearby, Lourmarin has a great playground and lots of casual eateries for families. Further afield, visit Barben Zoo wild animal park (35 minutes’ drive) or hire kayaks to explore Luberon’s rivers. Outdoorsy kids can explore the treetops at Passerelles des Cimes Accrobranching centre (about a 40 minute drive), catering for toddlers and upwards. The hosts can provide 1 baby crib, a highchair and a baby bath can be provided on request.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 7 nights in July and August; 5 nights the rest of the year. The residence is safe and secure with a fully gated garden. Please note that there are 2 unfenced pools/ponds so young children should be supervised around these. The swimming pool does have an automatic shutter. The house has fireplaces with fireplace guards for additional safety. In-house catering and babysitters can be provided on request. There is WiFi and several TVs. Some of the bedrooms have desks for guests who need to work on holiday. Car hire is recommended to explore the area and there is covered parking for 6 cars at the property. Pets are welcome; please let the hosts know at the time of booking. French tourist tax to be paid directly to the host at check in (per adult only and per night).
About the Location
The residence is located just outside the pretty village of Lourmarin in the south of France. It's within walking distance to the bakery in Vaugines and the village of Lourmarin has pretty cobbled streets and a castle, with a good offering of cafes, restaurants and boutiques. There is also a good-sized playground. Set in the Luberon national park area, there are plenty of hiking and biking trails as well as lavender fields, vineyards, and hilltop villages to explore. Many have weekly markets offering a range of local produce. Pertuis (25 minutes’ drive) has larger stores and supermarkets. For beach lovers, the beautiful south coast is less than an hour’s drive away. The closest international airport is Marseilles, about a 55-minute drive; Avignon is a 1 hour away with a train station serving TGV trains from Paris.
Accommodation Details
The residence has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms over 3 floors. On the ground floor there’s a large living room with a dining table, sofas, a TV, a billiards table and a fireplace. Next door is a galley style kitchen-diner with a long table extending from the kitchen island with sociable bar stool seating for 20. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with everything a guest would expect including a dishwasher and a coffee maker. It is connected to the terrace via glass doors for easy alfresco dining. The primary bedroom is located on the ground floor with a double bed, a sofa, table and chairs, and an ensuite bathroom with double bathtub. It has a mezzanine area and terrace access. The second bedroom (Byzantine) is also on this floor and has a double bed, a sofa/day bed, a private bathroom with a shower and sink, and a dressing room. Bedroom 3 (which has independent access from the main house) has a double bed with an en-suite bathroom including an Italian shower, and a stove. On the first floor are bedrooms 4 & 5, both with double beds and ensuite bathrooms with bathtubs. There is also an office/TV room. The 2 kids’ bedrooms are at basement level, with 4 single beds in each and a den style set up with a TV lounge. There is also a shared bathroom with a toilet, and direct pool access from this level. Outside space is a mix of manicured lawned areas and Mediterranean gardens with lavender, olive trees - and a pétanque pitch. Panoramic terraces, accessible from the living room and kitchen have a dining table, sun loungers and seating. There’s a 20m heated swimming pool and a natural pond with a jetty which is also safe to swim in.
Style Notes
Countryside idyll. This is French rural living with all of the luxury and interior finishes you would expect of a contemporary build. Interiors are cozy and colorful with warm reds, bold blues and calming greens used alongside a core palette of neutrals to create a homely yet characterful space. Handpicked antique finds are placed alongside contemporary art works, furnishings and lighting options for every mood. Glass windows are doors flood in natural light alongside sublime mountain views and the scent of lavender from the Mediterranean gardens. The outside space is a perfect mix of manicured lawns and wilder spots with a stunning natural swim pond and a sleek heated pool to add some rustic glamour. We love the panoramic countryside views from the first-floor bedrooms, particularly the room with the freestanding bathtub and huge landscape windows for soaking in views alongside bubbles.
