Borrow the family bikes - which include a cargo bike with attached child seat - and head to the nearby bike path, 5 minutes away, that leads to the beach.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of books and toys for kids under 10. There is a cute wooden playhouse in the garden, plus a hanging pod, hammock swing, soccer goals, scooters, and bikes. A crib, high chair, baby toys and a baby bath can be provided on request. The yard is full of birds and butterflies and you can hear fog horns and smell the ocean!

Style Notes

California style. This is a California-inspired indoor-outdoor home with Scandinavian sensibilities, neutral spaces, a hint of mid-century modern, and sustainable design features. The owners are inspired by minimal, kid-friendly, indoor-outdoor homes with tons of natural light. We are inspired by their fun play spaces, punchy wall art, racks of dressing up clothes and clean and simple family areas.

The perfect vacation!!!! I wanted to move in. Beautiful home. Soooo many books and toys. Very convenient to the beach, restaurants, etc. Friendly hosts! I wouldn’t change a thing!

Staying at Shannon's house was like walking into a Montessori preschool! Everything was very tidy and thoughtfully chosen, yet at the same time there was a plethora of high-quality kid activities. The backyard is really lovely, and the garage houses an art table, musical instruments, and a hammock, among other wonders. My only complaint is that my three-year-old, who hardly ever has temper tantrums, had a full-on meltdown, yelling "Why can't we live in such a beautiful house?!" when it came time to leave. In our haste, we left behind a lovey and pajamas, which Shannon kindly sent to us.

Shannon's house was great for the kids. The toys and books kept everyone happy, the location was excellent for our needs, and the outdoor space was lovely for Easter egg decorating and hunting! Thank you for sharing!

We loved our time at this residence. Shannon was incredibly helpful in the run up to the stay - a pleasure to deal with. The house is lovely, with an amazing assortment of kids toys, books, games etc. It's particularly worth noting that there is a very large garden, again filed with toys, which is an absolute blessing - our children loved it. The house is only 3-5 miles from Venice and Santa Monica beaches in one direction, 5 miles to Manhattan Beach in the other direction and has easy access to freeways for Downtown and Hollywood etc - probably need a car though (as you probably know if you're going to LA) as there is very little directly next to the property. We had a great time at Shannon's house and were genuinely disappointed to leave. A lovely experience.

This house provided a wonderful oasis for my kids to explore and play while we stayed in LA for a week. Toys are meticulously organized and they were all premium toys! Beautiful wooden blocks, magna tiles, dress up clothes and a play house my kids played in for hours. The house was clean, organized and user friendly. We were able to locate everything we needed easily and it made for a seamless transition to our time in LA. There is also a lot of outdoor play area with both the front and backyard fenced in. Overall, we loved this house and Shannon was a wonderful host!

Mar Vista, Los Angeles

Close to the beach

Sandwiched between Culver City and Venice Beach, this family-friendly neighborhood has palm tree-lined boulevards and friendly neighbors and is a great spot for a family break near the sea. Grab some bikes and strike out - it’s around 10-15 minutes to the beach - or spend time playing at the Mar Vista Recreation Area.
