Perks for the Parents

This sun-drenched, designer family home on the Mar Vista / Del Rey border has toys for the kids and is a 10-minute drive to the beach. It sleeps up to 7 + 2. It is well set up for a family stay with a fully equipped kitchen with an island and large indoor and outdoor dining tables that seat up to 10, perfect for family feasts. The kitchen / dining area opens directly to the backyard for a great indoor / outdoor flow.

Why Kids Love it

Kids under 10 will appreciate the stack of books, toys and games in the playroom, but there are toys and equipment for babies and toddlers too. A crib and a travel crib can be set up on request. The backyard has a covered deck, vegetable box and lots of grass for kids to play ball games and run around. There’s also a basketball hoop on the front driveway. The kids’ bedrooms are fully equipped with everything they may need.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Longer stays are discounted, please enquire. The hosts spend their summers on the East Coast and would love for another family to enjoy their wonderful LA home while they are away. Safety notes: there are ungated stairs and a 2nd floor balcony. For additional guests, the playroom could fit a crib and there is a sofabed in the den / TV room that sleeps 2.

About the Location

This residence straddles the neighborhoods of Mar Vista and Del Rey in Los Angeles’ Westside. It’s a relaxed, tree-lined, family-friendly area with walking distance to coffee shops and restaurants. Access to the Ballona Creek Bike Path is just half a block away. Wander around the Sunday Mar Vista Farmers’ Market and pick up some artisanal goodies or take a picnic to Del Ray Lagoon Park with its beautiful lake. Venice Beach is just 8 minutes’ drive, or for a more relaxed coastal experience, head to Playa Del Rey Beach where the sunsets are magnificent. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is just 15 minutes’ away.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, arranged over 2 floors. On entering you’ll find an open concept living and dining area that flows to the backyard and a fully equipped kitchen featuring Thermador appliances (oven and six burner range, convection oven/microwave plus an appliance garage with a blender, toaster, hot water heater, and coffee maker). Doors from the kitchen open to the backyard where there is a covered deck and grassy lawn. Also on this floor is a full bathroom and the 4th bedroom/TV room with a double sofa bed separated from the living room with pocket doors. There is also a laundry area and pantry off the kitchen. Upstairs is the primary queensize suite with a balcony and an ensuite bathroom featuring a shower and tub. The kids’ bedrooms are 1 queensize and 1 twin / single that share a family bathroom with a shower, and there is also a playroom on this level.

Style Notes

Eclectic & elegant. The ground floor interior and furnishings have been curated by LA designer Stefani Stein and featured in the Wall Street Journal. Drawing on the hosts’ Vermont roots, the design mixes New England charm with LA chic. Walls are painted with soft limewash, floors have wide plank oak floors and the kitchen features Cipollini Tirreno marble countertops with pale matte sage cabinets and brass fittings that give an olde world appeal. We love the mix of furnishings from French 1970s vintage to woven wicker; the chic primary bedroom with florals and velvet; and the fabulous backyard with lemon trees.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
