Perks for the Parents

A stunning family home right on Bells Beach in Australia, with 5 acres of land, an organic vegetable garden and super luxe interiors. It sleeps 8. The big draw here is the awe-inspiring views of the ocean - visible from all across the house. You’ll be lulled to sleep by sounds of the nearby waves and wake up to the gentle clucks of the resident chickens, and most importantly, no traffic noise. Guests are welcome to harvest organic veggies from the garden and eggs from the chickens or you can visit the family friendly eateries in nearby Jan Juc (10 minutes by bike) or Torquay (10 minutes’ drive). It’s just a few steps from the coastal path, so you can spend every day hiking along the cliff-top trails, chilling at the sandy beach or swimming in the ocean.

Why Kids Love it

This fun residence has plenty of toys and books for ages 3 and up. The outdoor space is amazing, with a large lawn, in-ground trampoline and a vegetable garden that kids will love to study. Kids will love feeding the chickens, collecting eggs and watching them wander around the garden! For cooler nights, take the kids outside to toast s’mores on the fire pit. It’s a short bike ride along the cliffs of Bells Beach to reach Jan Juc, which has a coffee shop and a playground with basketball courts. If they ever tire of beach days or playing outside, it’s easy to visit Jirrahlinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary or the Adventure Park Geelong (both half an hour’s drive) where there are amusements, rides, water slides and mini golf.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. Safety notes: the stairs to the bedrooms are very wide and through an alcove. There is parking space for 2 cars - car rental is recommended. Style Notes

Modern rustic. It’s no wonder that this house has been featured in many magazines for its unique design and aesthetic. The oak floors throughout complement a calming neutral palette, punctuated with pops of color and bold contemporary artwork. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood all the living areas with light, while multi-aspect windows inject framed views of the beautiful surroundings into each room. Despite the use of minimalist concrete, the hosts have chosen colorful textures and playful prints to add warmth and make the space feel welcoming. Sleek marble kitchen tops and beautiful bathrooms will make you feel like you're in a day spa! We love the rustic dining table and chairs, the cleverly integrated kitchen cupboards and the contrasting thistle-print wallpaper in the kids bedroom.

Melbourne, Victoria

Four seasons in one day

Like Sydney, Melbourne is a city with a beach that is terrific for kids, but that’s where the comparisons end. This delightful, laid-back, culture-focused city has everything from parading penguins to skyscrapers, surf beaches and superior coffee to keep you going. Take transport-crazy tots on a ride around town by tram, hit the highest point in the Southern Hemisphere by zooming up to Skydeck 888 and ride the vintage rollercoasters in St Kilda’s Luna Park right by the sea. Parent-oriented treats include the Yarra wineries a short drive away, great food and one of the world’s best comedy festivals. Pack warm clothes and put something waterproof in your luggage - Melbourne is the original city of ‘four seasons in one day’.
