This large and beautiful country residence in the picturesque beach town of Melides is ideal for 2 families with separate houses and a fabulous pool. It sleeps up to 8. The houses can be rented separately or together. Located just above the charming coastal town of Melides, this is a calm retreat where you can take a swim in the pool overlooking the hills, visit one of the stunning beaches nearby or stroll into town for a coffee. If you’re looking for nightlife, the buzzy beach bars, restaurants and shops of Comporta are 25 minutes’ ride away.

Why Kids Love it

When they’re not splashing in the pool, the kids will enjoy the space in the houses – for kids old enough to navigate the stairs, sleeping on the mezzanine level is a particular highlight. The gardens around the house are great for exploring. The beaches nearby are very family friendly with soft sand and have watersports on offer such as kayaking, paddleboarding, or windsurfing. Further afield is Parque Aventura da Serra (1 hr, 10 mins) with ziplines, rope courses, and other activities suitable for different age groups. A crib and a high chair are available on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights from July to September; 2 nights at other times. A security deposit of €1000 is only required in high season. Safety notes: the pool is ungated. House B has a mezzanine level that is best suited to older kids. The houses can be rented separately if required. Your stay includes a mid-stay clean which includes cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen and changing the towels but excludes changing bed linen. Towels, bed linens are provided. There is free WiFi and parking on the premises for up to 4 cars. There is air conditioning in just one of the bedrooms, the rest of the rooms have fans. A car is recommended to get around and enjoy your location. House B has a BBQ.

About the Location

This holiday home is in the town of Melides in the Alentejo region of Portugal, and a 10-minute drive to the beach and Atlantic coastline. It is tucked away from the main road and only 3 minutes by car to the town center. Praia de Melides is the nearest beach and is a long stretch of golden sand backed by dunes and pine forests. You’ll be within striking distance of other beautiful beaches including Comporta Beach and its pristine white sands. This is the ideal spot for swimming, making sandcastles and sunbathing, or try regional wines, olive oil, and cheese at one of the local restaurants.

Accommodation Details

There are 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms arranged over 2 houses. House A has a high-ceilinged living room with a traditional fireplace that opens to a dining area and a kitchen. There are 2 bedrooms – both are full / double, 1 with its own ensuite bathroom and 1 separate bathroom with a bath tub. One has a terrace overlooking the grounds and surrounding hills. House B has a similar set up with a fully equipped open-plan kitchen and dining area. It also has 2 bedrooms: 1 with a full / double bed and ensuite bathroom and 1 with 2 single / twin beds (these can be configured as a double / full bed) and ensuite. There is also a mezzanine with a double sofabed. Both houses have their own covered private patio, and an outdoor dining area, with a path leading to the pool.

Style Notes

Cozy, rustic beach chic. This blue and white-painted Alentejo style beach house is characterized by its earthy simplicity of whitewashed walls, exposed wood beams and wood furniture. The décor mixes natural textures such as clay and straw with art pieces to beautiful effect. Decorative objects include rattan lampshades and traditional ceramics. We love the wild and pretty gardens, the many indoor and shaded outdoor dining areas to get together, and the stunning and private pool area with loungers overlooking the grounds.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.

This traditional Alentejo village has white houses and calm streets and is set a few kilometers from its wild and sandy beach. Beside the Atlantic Ocean and Melides Lagoon, there are plenty of watersports options and local companies offering horseback riding along the sands. Spend easy days exploring the sand dunes, driving to local villages and enjoying the peace and quiet.

Our family had the most wonderful stay at the Vale Figueira Residence this June. I will dream of swimming on that magnificent pool during the cool and dark winter months. It was a quintessential European summer escape and the perfect family getaway! The town of Melides is adorable with a sweet bakery for morning coffee and treats, we loved a king lunch at the new Vermehlo Hotel and O Melidense for dinner!
