Perks for the Parents

This stylish family home in Mill Valley, San Francisco has fun kids play areas and a beautiful green backyard. It sleeps 7. This light indoor/outdoor home is a relaxing and spacious haven, with easy access to the city. It’s on the road heading north out of San Francisco, so it’s within easy reach of this region’s famous wineries and vineyards - Sonoma and Napa are just 45 minutes’ away - and there are plenty of family-friendly attractions to visit in the area too: San Francisco Zoo, The Walt Disney Family Museum and Alcatraz island are all less than half an hour away. The house is well laid out for families with a large farm table for eating, as well as a breakfast bar with 4 comfortable stools and an open plan layout so you can cook, eat and relax together as a family.

Why Kids Love it

The hosts have 3 daughters under 11, so there is plenty to entertain kids during their stay, including toys (American Girl Dolls, endless games and puzzles), books, scooters, bikes and boogie boards. The property is fenced in and safe, and the kids will love having their own playroom (on the lower level) to run in and outside. The layout of the house is great for kids to explore, with the sliding doors between the 2 kids’ bedrooms and a little nook under the stairs to hide out in. They’ll also spend hours in the play house outside, which was homemade by the hosts, with sky lights that kids love!

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Safety notes: the house has 2 sets of stairs - 1 to the downstairs from the street level (located in the living room) and 1 outside from the deck to the lower yard. The hosts do not have safety gates, but may be able to arrange this for you on request. Pets are welcome on request. The hosts have bikes for 8 and 11 year olds available for guests to borrow during their stay. Street parking and driveway spot are available and car rental is recommended. The house comes with air conditioning, dishwasher, washer/dryer, TV and WiFi. Both of the TVs (living room and playroom) are Smart TVs with DisneyPlus, Netflix, etc.

Style Notes

Contemporary cottage. This laid-back family home feels casual and welcoming, with a subtle beach style. The hosts have a connection to Nantucket on the east coast, so they have incorporated nautical blues and whites together with natural materials and wooden textures. Cozy cottage elements, such as white wall paneling and the A-frame ceilings, are juxtaposed with contemporary features, like the modern printed wallpaper and transparent ghost dining chairs. We love the contrasting black brick fireplace, the patterned rugs in the living areas and the luscious green garden with structural grass planting.

Sarah and her family are east coast transplants that now, happily, call Mill Valley their home. We love the outdoors and explore all that the Bay Area has to offer from hiking to beaches to wine tasting!

Mill Valley, Marin County
