Perks for the Parents

This 2-bedroom, kid-friendly residence in Culloden Shores looks out onto a peaceful pond and is 2 blocks from a sandy, private beach. It sleeps up to 6. The house is located on a quiet, dead-end road and has a spacious interior, deck and backyard. A Dutch (split) kitchen door means keeping an eye on the kids is a breeze, as you cook dinner and they play outside. There is a family bathroom with shower and bath for the kiddos, as well as an outdoor shower for those sandy summer nights.

Why Kids Love it

There is so much nature to explore, and room to run around inside and outside. The place is well-stocked with the essentials: a pack n’ play; kids' plates, cups and utensils; books and toys. Plus, a pop-up VW bus tent; beach wagon and toys, umbrella, towels, Radio Flyer wagon, water table, tricycle and kids' cornhole (there's a set for the adults, too). There are 2 bikes and 2 electric scooters to borrow. Kids can spot the local bunny who visits at dawn and dusk.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 14 nights May through August, shorter stays upon request. 4 nights the rest of the year. The house is safe and secure with unique keyless entry codes provided to each new guest. Towels and linens are provided. The house has central heating, air conditioning and ceiling fans. The smart TV has free access to Netflix, HULU, Amazon Prime, HBO, MLB and FoxSports. There is a flight of steps to access the neighborhood beach. A lifeguard operates on the beach during high season. Montauk Airport is a 15-minute drive.

About the Location

Montauk is known for its wild beaches, nature walks, lighthouse, live music, family-friendly restaurants and all-around summer magic. This neighborhood in particular, Culloden Shores, is one of the few that has beaches and restaurants within walking distance and is full of young families. There are playgrounds and free-to-use pools (2 have cafes) a short drive away. The train station is a 5-minute drive away, with trains regularly coming in from NYC, as well as regular buses (the Jitney) to and from the city.

Accommodation Details

The house has 2 bedrooms – the primary has a queensize bed, ensuite bathroom and sliding glass doors to a patio. The other bedroom has a full / double bed. A pack-n-play is available for babies and the bedrooms each have a folding room divider for families sharing with a baby wishing for more privacy. The living room also has an open fire with fire guards. There’s a kitchen/ dining area with a table seating up to 6 and a guest washroom. Outside is a backyard and deck with outdoor dining furniture and a gas grill.

Style Notes

Beach house style. Designed in the 1960s by modernist architect Andrew Geller, this recently renovated house is a well-designed combination of original mid-century accents and modern amenities – all done in a family-friendly way. There are huge windows, cathedral ceilings and new hardwood floors throughout. We love the deep blue kitchen with marble countertops, the fairy lights on the spacious deck, and the easy proximity of a lovely beach.

Montauk, The Hamptons

Unspoilt beaches beyond the Hamptons

At the furthest reaches of Long Island, just beyond the Hamptons, Montauk is still reachable for a weekend break to remember. And what a weekend break it will be: spend your days playing in the sand on unspoilt beaches, trying out watersports - surfing is really popular year-round - and hiking and kayaking around beautiful headlands.

We so enjoyed our stay in this home, which has everything needed for a truly family-friendly beach vacation. We did a good amount of grilling dinner and enjoying the deck table and lights, played with all the toys in the shed, and loved riding the bikes around this quiet area of Montauk. The house truly is a great place to be with a toddler, with the open plan for keeping an eye on him, and we also loved that the owners preserved so much of the Leisurama architecture and furniture - we felt transported out of the present to some sort of timeless place being here. Such a great way to disconnect from our busy lives. The owners were always reachable, considerate and gave great recommendations!

Gorgeous, immaculate, cozy home in a perfect, peaceful location! Nicole and Brian made us feel so welcome, providing so much info about the home and neighborhood, what to do and where to go, we felt like pampered house guests. House is fully stocked with beautiful furniture, comfy beds, tons of beach stuff. Neighborhood so kid friendly and close to Montauk and ocean beaches, everything easy to get to. Can't wait to go back!

Our group of 3 adults and two children had an absolutely wonderful week at Nicole and Brian's home in Montauk last July. The house was lovely, spotless and well-appointed. The two bedrooms both had ample closet and drawer space, comfortable bedding and pillows. We ended up putting the adults in the two bedrooms, and utilizing a pack-and-play and air mattress in part of the living area for our children. The divider was great, and enabled us to be hanging out in one part of the open space while the kids were asleep in the other. Despite being a smaller house, we ne The house is walkable to a nearby beach. Though we opted to drive further into Montauk to a more child-friendly beach area, we loved being able to take short-walks to the private beach. Various restaurants and beaches were all within an easy drive. We appreciated the quiet street and neighborhood and did not mind the drives to get to restaurants and activities. The amenities were also fantastic. We used the outdoor shower whenever we came in from the beach (the kids were huge fans). It was great not to have to bring our own beach toys and wagons- we used those at the house. We all loved having access to the scooters. The kids made good use of the toys, books and games. Despite the fact that Nicole and Brian gave birth(!) the week of our stay, they could not have been more flexible and responsive to the minor questions that came up. We so appreciated and regularly utilized their guide to the area. We cannot wait to return!
