Perks for the Parents

This architect-designed cabin in the woods is the perfect cozy spot for a ski vacation in Mt Baker. It sleeps 12. The kitchen is stocked with high quality tools and small appliances – everything you’ll need to create breakfast, lunch and dinner at home around your outdoor adventures. The extendable dining table can comfortably seat up to 8 and 4 more can be seated at the island counter. A large glass slider takes you directly out onto the deck with a dining table, grill and small seating area that is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee. Down a few steps from the outdoor dining area you will find the hot tub with space for up to 7 adults - the perfect way to unwind after a day on the slopes.

Why Kids Love it

The house offers fun for all ages, from toddlers to teens. Little kids will love the 2 cozy nooks/forts upstairs for creative and imaginative play or reading. There’s heaps of space outside for yard games and playing and teens will love hanging out by the fire pit or in the hot tub. Children will feel welcome here with kid-sized plates, bowls, cups and cutlery, as well as bath toys and step stools for the bathroom sinks. The host has loads of books and games for all ages, as well as safety essentials such as a gate on the deck, plus a pack-and-play, highchair and stair gates on request. For days out, there’s a DIY skate park just 5 minutes’ drive from the house and there are children’s ski lessons available at Mt. Baker ski area.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Safety notes: there are steps leading up to the house which may become slippery when wet or snowy. Please do not allow children to use the hot tub unattended and supervise small children at all times while on the property. Maximum occupancy is strictly enforced. Rates here are for 8 people: additional guests are then charged at $25/person/night up to 12. Sorry - no pets. Per HOA regulations, the host is required to collect the names of all guests along with license plate info for all guest vehicles prior to arrival. Guests will have access to the whole property including the garage: the garage is outfitted for gear storage and not able to fit a car. Ski + board racks along with boot dryers are provided. Guests must abide by Burn Ban restrictions: if a burn ban is in place, a notice will be posted at the gate. The HOA enforces their own burn bans which do not always coincide with county burn bans. No outdoor fires are permitted during burn bans. Snow tires and/or chains are recommended during winter months to access the cabin and the ski area. Please note that there is no cell service at the cabin but Wifi is provided via Starlink. There may be occasional outages or slowdowns and cell service is spotty in the area.

About the Location

The house is set within the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie national forest, just 22 miles from the Mt. Baker ski area and 2 miles from the town of Glacier where you’ll find some restaurants, a bakery and a small convenience store. The cabin is located in a somewhat remote area amongst a lot of large trees. Power outages are possible: we have a basic emergency kit on hand (flashlights, batteries) but please plan accordingly - especially during winter months - and come prepared with enough food and warm clothing. No parking is permitted on streets within the community per HOA regulations: all guest vehicles must be parked in our driveway. There is space for 4 cars to park comfortably and safely. Unfortunately rental guests are not permitted to use the Clubhouse or Pool. It’s around 45 minutes from Abbotsford International Airport or 2 hours from Seattle.

Accommodation Details

The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. The first floor features a primary suite with a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom (with a large walk-in shower and a window that perfectly frames the ferns and cedar trees of the hillside beyond). This floor also has the custom-built bunk room with four single beds and a second kingsize bedroom. There is a large entry hall with lots of hooks and storage along with an additional full bathroom. The main double height living space is lined with windows that flood the space with natural light and frame views out to the trees beyond. The gas fireplace in the living room (with TV above) anchors the main living area. A cozy corner window seat next to the fireplace is the perfect place to curl up a book or simply stare out to nature. The open loft space upstairs is designed with movie nights in mind with a large double sofabed and the second TV. The built-in storage houses a small refrigerator to keep extra beverages chilled. Built-in twin daybeds are nestled in the dormers that flank the loft space - they can be used as kids beds or sofas depending on your group’s size and needs. The upstairs half bathroom houses the washer and dryer.

Style Notes

Contemporary Cabin. Designed with serene getaways in mind, this newly-constructed home is the perfect destination at any time of year. Situated on a double corner lot on a dead end road, the house looks out into the trees on three sides giving a really private feeling. Thoughtfully furnished and outfitted with quality amenities, the cabin is everything you need for an amazing getaway, including a heat pump for optimum temperatures all year round, black-out shades in the bedrooms, heated floors in the bathrooms and dimmable lights throughout. We love the pendant lights hanging from the vaulted ceiling, creating a warm glow of light to the space when the sun goes down, as well as the geometric-inspired textiles and the natural wood constructions in the living room.

Mt Baker, Washington

Into the wild

Just over 2 hours from Seattle, this Washington State retreat comes alive in February for an annual snowboarding festival on Mount Baker. But there’s more to this area than snow: set on the Pacific Crest Trail, there is hiking, fishing, kayaking and horseback riding to enjoy. Mount Baker Vineyard and ferry rides at the Port of Bellingham are a short drive away.
