A serene woodland retreat set directly on the 7-mile Monadnock Rail Trail, with cute kids rooms. It sleeps up to 8. The house is set on a quiet street with an ample side yard for the kids to play. Walk up the street to the park or take a leisurely hike through the region's numerous trails to spot some local wildlife. The kitchen is well equipped with stainless steel cookware and all the conveniences of a modern kitchen for easy family meals. Nearby, there are several quaint New England towns with bakeries, antiques, local book shops, and unique small businesses you won’t find in the city.
Why Kids Love it
The hosts have young children and the house is perfectly set up to entertain kids of various ages. With an abundance of toys (legos, play kitchen, dolls, magnatiles, a Nugget couch) kids will never be bored. Don’t forget to check out the home library, with over 1000 children’s books for kids from ages 0-14. Each bathroom features a tub for bath time and there are heaps of outdoor toys including a mud kitchen, swing, hammock and trampoline. Older kids will love the free-range independence of exploring the surrounding forest and bike trail.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 3 nights. For those with allergies please note that the owners use only non-toxic cleaning supplies and do not have scented candles or laundry detergent. We ask that guests avoid using perfumes and other scented products during their stay. For families that like to stay active, bikes (2 adults, 2 kids) are available for guest use. A 4moms travel crib is available for a baby or toddler and 2 queen airbeds can accommodate additional guests. Safety notes: the trampoline has a safety net but the owner is not liable for any trampoline related injuries. The swings similarly should be used at your own risk. The driveway can accommodate multiple cars, even a motorhome, and a car is necessary to explore the area.
About the Location
This residence is located in New Hampshire, close to the border of Massachusetts. It's about 90 minutes' drive from Boston. Across the street is a delicious, family friendly pub and there is a park and playground at the end of the street. It's 5 minutes by car to Mount Monadnock state park - the area is known for leaf peeping in autumn and year round outdoor activities. Jaffrey (5 minutes' drive) boasts children's woods, a lake with summer beach, playgrounds and larger town amenities. Peterborough, 15 minutes to the north, is a picturesque New England small town with a thriving farmer's market (on Wednesdays), cute shops, and several note-worthy restaurants.
Accommodation Details
This residence has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on 2 floors. The main floor features a living room with a fireplace, a dining room with a kid’s self-guided art area, and a fully-equipped kitchen. The primary bedroom has one kingsize bed and the adjacent room has 2 twin beds. A bathroom sits between the 2 rooms. The second floor features a spacious home library and a nursery/playroom with plenty of space for a travel crib or multiple air mattresses. The fourth bedroom has a queensize bed. The grounds feature a deck with outdoor furniture, a BBQ grill, mature perennials, and 1 acre of land. The unfinished basement features a washer/dryer.
Style Notes
Cozy retreat. The space exudes calm, with pale oak floors combined with white walls and gray accents. The décor is simple, with a few mid-century pieces, yet functional for everyday living. For the musically inclined, an 88-key keyboard is available in the dining room. The bathrooms are modern and feature bidets for convenience. Neutral colors and comfortable furniture enhance the home’s welcoming tone. We love the cozy fireplace in winter, the colorful kids room and the inviting upstairs home library for those relaxed stay-at-home days.
