Why Kids Love it
This home suits children of all ages. There is ample living and family space as well as outdoor space. The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to prepare family meals and the kids bedroom is private with a blackout window shade. Being just outside the French Quarter is a boon for families - it’s nice and calm and not too busy with tourist traffic, yet close to great attractions. Coliseum Square Park is a 3-block walk away and the shops, restaurants, and cafes of Magazine St are 1 block away. On request, the hosts can offer a high chair, pack’n’play, rock'n'play, baby toys, books, baby bath, and stroller.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 3 days. There are 4 steps up to the front porch but otherwise everything is on 1 main level. Independent check-in is provided through use of a key coded lock box so you don't have to worry about coordinating arrival times. If you bring or rent a car, there is plentiful, free street parking directly in front of the house (a bonus in New Orleans). The owners live next door and have plenty of kid-gear if you should forget something. They also have 2 bikes, 1 with a child seat, that may be available on request. Car rental not essential but can be useful; taking cabs/Uber is a convenient option as well.
About the Location
The residence is in the Lower Garden District, between the Garden District/Magazine Street corridor and the Warehouse District. There are many child-friendly restaurants and young families in this residential neighborhood. For first timers to New Orleans, it is a great location a bit out of the tourist hubbub of the French Quarter but still very central to the sites and attractions. It is 0.6 miles to the streetcar line which runs to Canal Street and the French Quarter. Great museums such as the World War II, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Contemporary Arts Center are all within a few blocks. The airport is around 20 minutes’ drive away.
Accommodation Details
This authentic New Orleans shotgun is like a single family home. It has 2 parlors and a large kitchen in the front and 2 spacious private bedrooms and bathrooms in the back. Both bedrooms have queensize beds; there is a single sofa bed in the lounge. The kitchen is eat-in and there is also a separate dining area. The rear patio offers a private courtyard feel.
Style Notes
Colorful and cultural. This historic house was recently renovated with all the modern conveniences, and is designed and decorated with an eclectic blend of antiques, modern furnishings, and art to reflect the colorful culture of New Orleans. We love the blue shutters, the stoop and the authentic touches throughout.

New Orleans, Louisiana
Beignets, jazz and streetcar tours
This rich city has so much to offer families it’s hard to know where to start. Beyond its impressive architecture and inspiring musical heritage, it’s got fantastic food (beignets, anyone?), zoos, aquariums and a slew of superb museums. You can try Mardi Gras costumes on at the Mardi Gras Museum, explore voodoo at the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum or pilot a tugboat at the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Explore the city by streetcar or steamboat, visit alligator swamps and haunted mansions, or just dig into plates of insanely delicious food and enjoy the ride.
