Perks for the Parents

This fabulous 2-bedroom apartment on the top 2 floors of an 1890 shotgun home is close to parks, a 5-minute walk to Frenchman Street and a stone's throw from hundreds of incredible restaurants. Well-appointed for a family stay, it has a full kitchen and dining area for up to 8 guests. Rooms are comfortable yet stylish, and furnished with a mix of antique and contemporary pieces from New Orleans and around the world. The den includes a sofa that folds out into a comfortable futon-style bed, ideal for kids or a nanny/au pair.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has ample family space that's ideally suited for babies or children over 4, but can appropriately accommodate any age. Steep stairs mean that toddlers will need an extra hand. The den is equipped with an Apple TV - perfect for playtime and movie nights. A pack’n’play, high chair, and toys can be provided upon request. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub for bath time, and there is a fenced back yard. The property is a short walk to Crescent Park, a fully-fenced 3-mile waterfront stretch of the Mississippi.

Things to Know

Minimum stay is 2-4 days, depending on the season. The flat is accessed via a secured gate and an external staircase. A private backyard (shared with the owners) provides space for kids to run around. The staircase that leads to the upstairs bedroom is rather steep for young children and is not gated. Street parking is readily available on non-holiday days. Car rental is useful but not essential in this highly walkable and central location. While there is no washer-dryer in the unit, one can be made available on request.

About the Location

The residence is in the heart of the Marigny, under 5 minutes’ walk to Frenchman Street, a 10-minute walk to the French Quarter, and a stone's throw from hundreds of incredible restaurants. The family-friendly residential neighborhood has a laid-back bohemian vibe through its quaint, palm-lined streets, sidewalk cafes, and jazz clubs. The closest airport is Louis Armstrong New Orleans airport, approximately 25 minutes’ drive away.

Accommodation Details

Style Notes

Historical charm. The apartment has been recently renovated with an intent to honor the original beauty and history of the home, while bringing a new depth of warmth, personality and functionality to each space. The bedrooms are serene and cozy, and the jasmine-flanked deck is the perfect place for a cup of coffee. We love the rich colors, turquoise front door and thoughtful touches.

Having lived on both coasts, we were drawn to New Orleans by its vibrant culture, history, and architecture. Travelers ourselves, we've always sought out thoughtfully designed places to stay that bring us closer to the most authentic, local version of our destination. During a visit to the Crescent City in 2017, a sweet double shotgun caught our eye, and before long, we were homeowners. With nothing more than a vision and a sense of adventure, we rolled up our sleeves and began to create a place where friends, family, and visitors could experience the beauty, oddity, and flavor that is uniquely New Orleans.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Beignets, jazz and streetcar tours

This rich city has so much to offer families it’s hard to know where to start. Beyond its impressive architecture and inspiring musical heritage, it’s got fantastic food (beignets, anyone?), zoos, aquariums and a slew of superb museums. You can try Mardi Gras costumes on at the Mardi Gras Museum, explore voodoo at the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum or pilot a tugboat at the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Explore the city by streetcar or steamboat, visit alligator swamps and haunted mansions, or just dig into plates of insanely delicious food and enjoy the ride.

My family of 4 adults and baby aged 4 months visited New Orleans to attend our son’s wedding. The Louie Residence was perfect in every way from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The accommodation is furnished to a high standard and immediately gives a sense of a calm, relaxing environment with a true New Orleans feel. Anna & Tim the owners, have clearly shown a great attention to detail and provide many extras to make guest stays as comfortable as possible. There are ample fluffy white towels, shampoo, conditioner and Aesop hand wash provided. Small items such as salt, pepper, olive oil, washing liquid all provided which is so thoughtful whether the stay is 2 nights or 2 weeks. The location is superb with many cafes close by and an excellent Italian restaurant; Palador 511, just a 4 minute walk. We contacted Anna numerous times prior to our stay and her immediate response is excellent. In our opinion you will not find a better house and now we have family in New Orleans we will be proud to call this our New Orleans home when we return.

The location was fantastic (right outside the French Quarter), the space was clean and wonderful, and everything was super easy (accessing the place, communications in advance from Anna, etc). If we come back to NOLA, we would definitely stay here again!

We (my husband, two children (3 and 5), my mom, and I) loved staying at the Louie! It is in a great location and so well decorated, but, above all, Anna and Tim were such great hosts. Their attention to detail was stellar - they had Stumptown coffee for us, a small glass carafe of cream, sparklingly water, and a nice bottle of rose waiting for us upon arrival. They also high quality soaps and shampoos, as well as extra toothbrushes, etc., if you had forgotten any of these essentials. We had rented a giant, three-row SUV, as we had five people and drove to Florida for the second part of our trip, and Tim saved a parking spot and waited for us to arrive from the airport - which was so nice after a long day of flying with a 3 and 5-year-old. Both of them were friendly, helpful, and prompt in their text communications and gave us great restaurant recommendations. All in all it was a great experience!

We loved staying at the Louie Residence! It is a beautifully decorated and relaxing place. It was centrally located but on a quiet street. We walked to a different cafe for breakfast every morning. Anna, the owner, was very responsive to our emails and texts. She provided us a pack and play, a mattress, and clean sheets for our 13-month old. We decided to use the TV room as baby's bedroom. He was miserable during our trip (teething--bad timing) but the owners, who live downstairs, didn't say a word :) FYI. The stairs to the attic (the second bedroom) are very steep and not safe for the baby but we kept an eye on him all the time and he liked climbing up and down.

Anna and Tim went above and beyond to accommodate our family of four. Before arrival, their communication was informational, kind, and prompt. So helpful to not have to worry about a thing with the booking when traveling with two small children. We were greeted at the residence with smiles, such a wonderful thing to see after a long flight! The Louie was an absolute dream. Even better than the photos. It was stylish, warm, inviting, and so, so comfortable. And of course, very photogenic. We absolutely loved our stay in New Orleans and know that it was mainly because of our stay here. Highly, highly recommend!!

Our family of 5 loved staying at The Louie. It is a beautiful home in a great spot in New Orleans, close enough to walk to cafes and the surrounding areas. Tim was a fabulous host and when we return to New Orleans we will definitely revisit The Louie. Thanks again, Sarah
