Perks for the Parents

This beautiful beach house is just 5 minutes’ walk from the beach in Holden Beach, North Carolina and comes with porch swings, outdoor showers, and a dedicated kids’ bunk room. It sleeps 8 + 1. This is a great vacation home for families, with a short walk to the shore than even the little ones can manage with ease. There are 2 outdoor showers here - 1 for a quick rinse post-beach and another with more privacy for a more relaxing, lengthy spa experience. The house itself is tailor made for rest and relaxation: light pours into the house from sunrise to sunset, and the open plan layout means the whole family can play, cook, or relax together without being trapped in a small hotel room.

Why Kids Love it

This home appeals to kids of all ages. The hosts have games, books, puzzles and toys, as well as blocks and wooden toys for babies and toddlers. Parents with toddlers will be happy to find a high chair, travel crib, and children’s utensils for little ones to use during their stay. Most of the toys are stored in a large white wooden chest so guests have access to them if they choose, but they can be packed away if you prefer a toy-free space. The backyard and the wooden swings on the deck are a bit hit for kids aged 4 and older. The best part of a vacation here is the short walk to the beach - kids will love building sandcastles (sand toys are provided) and splashing in the sparkling blue ocean. There’s also a playground, coffee shop, and bike rentals on the island, to help you with your family days out.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. The house is fitted with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout, and a fire extinguisher is located under the kitchen sink. There is space to park 3 cars in the driveway and car rental is recommended. The house comes with central heating and air conditioning, a dishwasher, washer/dryer, TV, and WiFi.

About the Location

This house is located in the middle of the quaint island of Holden Beach, North Carolina, just 2 rows back from the ocean. It’s around 3 hours from the Raleigh Durham airport and 1 hour from Wilmington. On the island there is a convenience store, coffee shop, and 3 restaurants, as well as great bike paths and a bike rental company (children seats are available there on request). Off the island you can find grocery stores, pharmacies, and more restaurants. For family days out, try Magic Mountain water park (less than 5 minutes’ drive), the aquarium and amusements at Myrtle Beach (1 hour away), and Alligator Adventure zoo (50 minutes’ drive).

Accommodation Details

The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. The large open plan living area includes a dining table (seating 8) and the newly-renovated kitchen has brand new appliances with a bar table seating 4. The primary bedroom has a queensize bed and its own bathroom; the second guest room has a queensize bed; the third bedroom has a set of 2 single bunk beds. The second and third bedroom share an adjoining bathroom. The hosts also have 1 double air bed available for extra guests. There is a large front porch extending the length of house, with rocking chairs and a porch swing, as well as another large deck on the back side of house with an outdoor seating area.

Style Notes

Breezy beach house. This home is open and spacious, with light, bright, and modern interiors. Fresh paint and geometric tiles give the interiors an airy and modern feel. Lots of outdoor elements and natural textures complement the natural surroundings and the coastal location, while pieces of mid-century furniture juxtapose the rattan and wicker textures to create a hip but casual space. We love the splashes of deep nautical blue against a neutral color scheme, the chunky wooden dining table, and the fun mini bar in the living room, which adds to the vacation vibe.

From North Carolina to New York, over a decade ago my husband and I started what we thought would be a two-year adventure. Four children later and a handful of moves we have settled into a cozy spot in Brooklyn Heights. It’s the perfect location; we are just a short walk to the iconic Brooklyn Bridge Park and steps away from the most spectacular views of Manhattan via the promenade. In addition to being tourists in our own city, we love travel- (with) and without little ones! Kid and Coe sparked our interest after viewing the beautiful properties online and learning to navigate travel with small children. Comfort and convivence are key, but a beautiful space provokes joy in all.

It was so nice to arrive and have all the extra things thought of. The kids enjoyed all the well thought out touches including toys, games and puzzles in good condition. Brooke was a great host.

We had a lovely stay at Cabana Cornelia. The house was perfect for the beach - great front porch and my kids loved the swing. Two outdoor showers made it easy to rinse after the beach. And the walk to the beach was easy, even with three young kids and all the beach gear. My kids have been asking to go back and I hope we're able to stay again one day. Brooke was exceptionally nice and helpful, made us feel very welcome.
