This beautifully restored, waterfront Victorian cottage with gingerbread trim sleeps 8 and is ideally situated in Shelter Island Heights. A 5-minute walk to the North Ferry, private beach club, tennis courts, restaurants, and shops, the cottage is perfect for families with young children or for an extended family gathering. The formal dining room and spacious kitchen provide a comfortable space for preparing and enjoying meals together. The whitewashed ceilings and large windows allow for plenty of natural light and fresh ocean air. We love the arched architectural accents and the children’s bedroom with its vaulted ceiling, bunk bed, trundle, and full-sized crib. After a day strolling through the picturesque town, kids can retreat to the fenced-in backyard for safe outdoor play. Dine as a family on the front porch and watch the boats on Dering Harbor slowly drift past. On colder nights, cuddle up with the kiddos and a good book by the fire.

A New Yorker by way of San Francisco. I love art, design, and fixing up old houses.

Nice house to stay with our 2 young kids.

North Fork, Long Island

Simple country pleasures

Beachcombing, messing about in boats, dangling a line off the pier… all the deliciously wholesome fun of your fondest childhood vacations can be found in this New York summer outpost, where nature meets high society, with designer malls and privet-hedged mansions sitting happily alongside clapboard cottages, bike-dotted boardwalks and tousled dunes. North Fork is a little more low key than the Hamptons but with much of the same appeal - surrounded by the ocean and with pretty towns to visit filled with boutiques and waterfront restaurants.
