Create your own farm stay at this rural idyll, just half an hour outside Belfast, with THE best ever kids playroom. Sleeps 10. The house is surrounded by countryside - it’s super calming and quiet - but the city of Belfast is just 30 minutes away by car for sightseeing and days out. There are endless things for the children to do to keep them entertained, so parents can relax without leaving every day for planned activities. When you’re ready to explore, Murlough beach is also just 30 minutes away - a spectacular mix of sand, pebbles, dunes and spectacular mountain scenery.
Why Kids Love it
This place will be a huge hit for kids - especially those who love animals and being outdoors. The playroom is a huge hit with all ages, with plenty of space to play and more stock than a toy store, and there’s a huge outdoor space with a mud kitchen, bell tent, water table, sand pint, soil planter for digging vegetables, play trays and an entire crafting barn! The hosts run an outdoor stay-and-play center for kids, where kids can meet the 3 resident alpacas and chickens, so they’re experts in creating a magical environment for little ones. The hosts have ALL the baby gear you’d need upon request - cots, highchairs, playmats, bouncers etc, plus toys up to age 9/10.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 7 nights in July or August, other months can be flexible. This is an incredibly safe road with friendly farmers, neighbours and dogwalkers. Stair gates can be installed on request. The hosts have 2 farm cats (who sleep outside), chickens and Alpacas - part of the joy of staying here can be to feed them. If you wish, the hosts can arrange for them to be fed by neighbours. Shops and small supermarkets are 10 minutes away by car in the local town of Ballynahinch - car rental is essential to get around this part of the country.
About the Location
The house is located in the Hillsborough area of Northern Ireland. The location is perfect: 40 minutes from the airport, 30 minutes from historic Belfast city center, 30 minutes from the most beautiful beach at Murlough, and just 10 minutes from a great supermarket. There is lots to see and do around here, including Hillsborough castle and Hillsborough forest park, with a large lake and fantastic playground (both 10 minutes away). Hillsborough village also has a few pubs and restaurants and cafes and in summer, there’s an outdoor water park for kids (20 minutes’ drive).
Accommodation Details
The house has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. You’ll find a spacious kitchen with a breakfast table overlooking the countryside, plus a separate dining room with an extra large table. There’s a large living room space with a record player to relax, as well as a sunroom / playroom, beautifully set-up for children with aesthetically pleasing toys. The primary bedroom boasts a super kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom, while the children’s bedroom has a bunkbed (single over double beds). The third room has a kingsize bed; the fourth bedroom has 1 single. Outside, there is 4 acres of land to explore, with an immaculate front lawn, a back garden with a wooden climbing frame, and a separate play area for kids with the bell tent and a crafting barn.
Style Notes
Scandi Farmhouse. Outside, the traditional Victorian farmhouse looks classic and picturesque amongst the green surroundings. Inside, the property is bright and light, with creams and off-whites throughout to create a calming environment, punctuated with pops of colour. The playroom is full of wooden toys and montessori activities - a truly inspiring aesthetic that doesn’t feel harsh or hectic. We love the whimsical children’s bedrooms (they’ll never want to leave), the gorgeous hallway boot room and the beautiful dark green Aga in the kitchen.
