Perks for the Parents

This newly-renovated home on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii comes with a private studio apartment, ocean views, and a whole host of beach essentials. It sleeps 13 + 2. This residence was designed to accommodate large family gatherings yet retain privacy for each and every guest. None of the rooms have common walls with another bedroom and each bedroom has its own bathroom. The 2 main bedrooms are designed in the style of a hotel suite, with an open concept layout, spa-like bathrooms and private decks. All the bathrooms are fully stocked with linens, towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion - with bath soap from local supplier Hawaiian Bath and Body, to add another hotel-inspired luxury touch. This beautifully-designed home is perfect for parents who love a coastal scene - the main floor of the house is situated on an elevated platform, enhancing infinite ocean views from every window. The house also comes with a Seaside Studio Suite apartment on the ground floor, which is completely independent from the main house (ideal for a nanny or an au pair). It has a Californian kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom, as well as a full-sized high end kitchen and adjacent seating area, where folding patio doors lead out to the lower level lanai and grassy backyard.

Why Kids Love it

There is a large choice of toys, books and games for kids of all ages, including board games, giant Monopoly and Scrabble, plus an amazing media and entertainment lounge: an open living room on the ground level with a U-shaped RH cloud sectional facing a 110” projector screen for watching movies or your favorite team play. Behind the sofa is bar height seating for 6, and stacking patio doors lead out to the lower level lanai, bbq, grassy yard and beach access - the perfect place for play time (for both kids and adults!). The children’s bedroom has 2 canopy beds with a nautical steering wheels plus a ladder leading up to the loft space, where there is a cozy reading nook (not recommended for children under 5) and a queensize bed for older kids or teens. Kids will love roaming the miles of safe, sandy beaches nearby, as well as the Keana Farms zip-line tour, 45 minutes’ drive up the coast. Away from the coast, there’s a playground in Waialua district park (15 minutes’ walk or a 2-minute drive) or you can take a trip to the nearby Dole Plantation (15 minutes’ drive) where the family can explore a pineapple plantation with a train ride and the world’s largest maze.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. Safety notes: this gated property on a cul de sac street offers privacy and security with passcode protected locks and a Ring security system. There is 1 flight of stairs to access the property from both the front and back of the house - these stairs are on the outside, and although all doors have sensors, there are no gates at the top of these stairs. Each room has its own individual remote-controlled air conditioning, as well as a ceiling fan. No parties, events or additional guests. There is a garage and driveway up for parking up to 3 cars. There are 4 bikes available for guests to use during their stay (mainly for adults but one for a smaller person or taller child) - please leave the bikes locked up if you take them off the property. The lower level includes a laundry room with storage for the bikes, as well as body boards, surf boards, life jackets, a paddle board, fishing rods, snorkeling equipment, and a kayak - all available for guests to borrow during their stay. For flexible sleeping options, hosts also offer 1 air bed and 2 travel cribs.

About the Location

This property is located on the north shore of Oahu island, Hawaii. It’s 40 minutes’ drive to the airport and 45 minutes’ drive to Honolulu. With direct access to pristine beachfront, the house boasts some of the most family friendly shores on Oahu. The small reef arching 150 feet off the coastline provides significant protection against waves and creates a natural 'saltwater pool'. Snorkeling, surfing, and paddle-boarding are a must. Vendors nearby offer many activities for visitors, including surf lessons, jet-skiing and shark cage diving. A short bike ride along the paved path leads to some of the popular spots on the island, such as the Saturday morning farmers market and the park at the historic Waialua Sugar Mill. Head down the shopfronts of Haleiwa (less than 10 minutes’ drive) after grabbing a bite at Giovanni's famous shrimp truck seen on diners, drive-ins, and dives.

Style Notes

Beachfront paradise. ‘Kai aniani’ or ‘Sea of Glass’ is an architecturally stunning beachfront home on the North Shore of Oahu, completely remodeled in 2018. As you ascend the front steps and open the double front doors, you are greeted with wall-to-wall ocean views through the sliding doors and clerestory windows along the back of the great room. The A-frame design is accentuated by windows that face Mount Ka’ala, the tallest mountain peak on the island to the south, and wall-to-wall sliding doors along the entire north-facing oceanfront with 70 feet of sandy beach. The design and decor is coastal and modern, with unique details such as the exposed ceilings and luxury extras, like Brooklinen towels and linens. The finishes were picked for durability, with young kids in mind - the perfect place for the whole family to relax. We love the woven rope circle chairs in the studio suite, the quirky canopy beds in the kids room, and the luxurious marble finishes in the bathrooms.

Oahu, Hawaii

Snorkeling, secret coves and sunshine

From Honolulu’s cityscapes and the quiet north shore beaches, Hawaii’s third largest island is certainly diverse. There’s plenty of local culture to experience, plus shrimp vans, shave ice, world-class surf and family friendly outdoorsy activities from snorkeling in tide pools to kayaking, cycling and hiking. Seek out secret coves and play in the sunshine
