We are a French family of 4. We've been living in Oakland for 10 years and absolutely love California. My oldest daughter (14) loves to read and draw. My son (10) is very active so we had to secure the house as much as possible. We travel back to France 2 months a year during the summer so we are happy to rent our house while we are away. We also love to go skiing in Tahoe and are always up for a long week end anywhere in the US to discover this wonderful country.

Oakland, San Francisco & Bay Area

Culture, countryside and a cute 50's theme park

San Francisco’s biggest port and the third largest city in the Bay Area, Oakland is big and diverse. Spend a calming morning down at Lake Merritt, boating, feeding ducks or walking around the water, then get hands on at the Chabot Space and Science Center in the afternoon. Take a nature trek in the hills, then return to the city center for people watching, coffee and shopping in Jack London Square. Visit Children’s Fairyland with your tots, a theme park dating to the 1950s, or use the city as a base to explore the wider area, from the beautiful countryside of rural California to the sightseeing spots of San Francisco.

This was probably, so far, the best house we've stayed in. I had a teen, a 9y, and a 3y and all of them loved the house as did my husband and i. Great location, great neighborhood, great things for all the kids, great kitchen wares, little touches. I also worked from their house and loved the set up. I mean, I would live here in a heartbeat.

This was the best place we could have stayed in the Bay! The hosts were magnificent and the home was perfect. I felt safe, clean and well taken care of. It was sad to leave.

We arrived at the Dover Residence with our three children after almost two weeks on a road trip in California and immediately felt at home. This is a very nice house, relaxing and with a lovely interior decoration, strategically located between San Francisco and Silicon Valley. We particularly enjoyed to eat outdoors and the possibility to open up the large door-window between the living-room and patio. The house is close to Berkeley and the nice College Avenue. Our children loved the excursions to Muir Woods, Apple's and Google's HQ , the nearby beaches and of course to SF. I can warmly recommend this house.

We had a perfect stay! The house is beautiful with lots of great kid- friendly touches that made it very enjoyable for us with our four - and one year olds. The toys were great. The curtains were dark enough to help the kids sleep in. Great location, lovely outdoor space. Really beautifully decorated home. We hope to stay here again soon!

We had a great stay at the Dover residence. Benedicte was a very gracious host and provided very helpful and easy-to-follow information for our stay that made the trip a breeze. The house is very nicely appointed and modern (definitely has a European feel). The full sliding door downstairs that opens to the back patio makes the place lovely. The rooms are each very nice upstairs. We stayed with our 3 year old and 3 month old. Benedicte set up gates on the stairs for our 3 year old's safety. The neighborhood is up and coming but has a cool vibe and is very central. A few things we'd note - there is no microwave, and the parking is in the street (but there were always available spots right out front) - just minor things that didn't detract from our stay. All in all, a great place to stay for a visit!

We had such a lovely stay with our 2.5 year old at the Dover residence. The house was clean and beautifully decorated, the bed comfortable and the location super convenient to everything in Oakland and Berkeley. We especially enjoyed the backyard and appreciated all the kid friendly amenities (bath toys, kid size stools, etc). We couldn't recommend this place more!

We had an excellent long weekend at The Dover Residence. Benedicte is a very gracious host. He was extremely accommodating in making sure that the children's sleeping arrangements matched our preferences. He was also easy to reach over text message with any questions or issues. The house itself is a pleasant place to spend time. It has high ceilings and great natural light. The huge glass window on the main floor is a great feature, and the deck would have seen more use if would have stopped raining. The decor is very modern and stylish which made for a pleasant stay. There were plenty of toys for the kids and we really enjoyed staying at a home rather than cramming into a hotel.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Dover house. Benedicte was always available and quick to respond leading up to our stay. The house was in great condition and so welcoming. We have a 15 month old and 2 1/2 year old and the toys were great and all of the amenities allowed us to pack light. We hope to make our stay here an annual thing!

We had a perfect stay at the Dover Residence. Benedicte the host was so kind to let us stay there quite spontaneously after we had a fire in our house just before christmas. We spent the holidays in this new, modern, clean and stylish house. Our kids loved the toys and books and we liked the european atmosphere and the brightness of the Dover Residence. Whenever we had questions Benedicite replied quickly. The house is located close to some nice restaurants and shops in Temescal. You can also walk to College Avenue. Also the neighbors were very nice and helpful! We loved spending the holidays in this house and we are so grateful to find someone helping us in this time.

My family and I stayed at the Dover Residence in mid October, just for a short weekend. Although we wouldn't have minded staying longer, I know our kids for sure would have loved that. My 4 year old daughter keeps asking when we will go back. This home is very modern and contemporary, if it were not for the toys and baby gear, you wouldn't think children reside there. Nonetheless it still felt very homey and welcoming, and this house is spotless! The best part of this house is the 1st floor living room/ kitchen/ patio space. If our trip were longer we would have utilized the patio much more. We were lucky to have amazing weather, so we opened the patio doors for a few hours for some fresh Oakland air. They have a neighbor who plays Jazz music in the late afternoon which for us seemed like a treat. It just really added to the ambiance. The toys are mostly European, wooden, or vintage style which was lovely since the majority of my children's toys are plastic and made in china. My children loved them! I am very glad we stayed here.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Dover Residence. We travelled with a 2 month-old and 2 year old and both slept comfortably. Since the toddler was not used to a bunk-bed, Benedicte kindly set up a sleeping space below the bunk bed for her. The home was spotless, beautifully appointed, and checking-in and out was simple and easy. We especially enjoyed eating quiet breakfasts and drinking wine in the outdoor garden area. When we return to Oakland, we will definitely be staying here again. Thanks for a lovely and comfortable stay.
