It is a special and atmospheric place to stay and has plenty of space. Stylishly decorated, it includes an excellent kitchen, outdoor space with barbecues and church views, and enough space to easily sleep a nanny or au pair, or grandparents. The location, 45 minutes from the beach, 30 minutes from Rotterdam and Antwerp and 20 minutes from Breda, makes it easy to explore some of the best sights and attractions in this part of Europe. It is a short walk from the shops in the village center, which are open on Sundays.

It is all a short walk to park and the village’s public outdoor swimming pool (open May-September). Cribs, high chairs, baby toys and amenities are available on request. Best of all, there’s a wood-fired pizza oven in the garden.

Style Notes

Schoolhouse chic. This stunning villa was built in 1938 and is a municipally-protected heritage building, set over 5,000 sq ft in the center of a charming Netherlands village. Originally built as a school, there are incredible features throughout, including the old stairway and high ceilings, tiled walls and a gymnastics horse reworked into a bench seat in the kitchen. Large scale images work well with the high ceilings - a large picture of Van Gogh in one bedroom and a stunning landscape wallpaper in the main lounge. The old entry hallway for the school is refreshed with a red leather sofa, hanging chandelier and oil paints. We love the unique appeal of this incredible home, its contemporary garden and the wonderful spaces for kids to explore.

We are a family of three and love to travel the globe, but we also like cosy weekends at home. We are fond of cooking, enjoying the garden and entertain guests. Our daughter is fond of animals, all kinds of creative stuff, dancing and playing games. We would like to share our home, while we are on holidays, because it is a great place for families to get together and relax.

Oud Gastel, The Netherlands

A friendly village with easy day trips nearby

This little village, a little west of Breda, is well located for exploring the south of the Netherlands and north of Belgium, and is under an hour from both Rotterdam and Antwerp. It’s a friendly spot with local shops, farms to visit and a local swimming pool; on a sunny day, it’s an easy drive to the Zeeland coast beaches.
