Perks for the Parents

This 4-bedroom loft apartment in the up and coming Kinkerbuurt neighborhood has beautiful, open interior spaces and a sunny outdoor terrace. It sleeps up to 7 + 1. The contemporary, light-filled kitchen is a joy to cook in and contains a good espresso machine and coffee grinder for the perfect brew. There’s a large terrace for dinner or breakfast in the sun. Spotify Connect and Google Home are provided and there’s WiFi and cable TV too with a big couch for movie nights. Alternatively, a cool, local cinema shows films in English. Nearby are several playgrounds and parks, nice cafes, interesting shops and kid-friendly restaurants.

Why Kids Love it

The hosts have 3 children under 10 so there are plenty of toys and games for this age group (mostly hidden inside the living room’s wooden bench). On the mezzanine is a piano to play for the musically inspired. In the shared garden is a trampoline. There are 3 kids’ bedrooms that are bright, light-filled and colorful that your kids will enjoy staying in too. The nearby De Hallen cinema is great entertainment, which also has kid-friendly food. Vondelpark with cafes, ponds, big green spaces and 2 very cool playgrounds is an easy 20-minute walk away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: XX nights. Safety notes: There is a mezzanine level with 2 flights of ungated stairs but the host can provide baby gates on request. Toddlers should be carefully supervised on the open stairs. There are stairs to get to the apartment door. This home has a communal entrance, staircase and garden. Please keep noise to an acceptable level. This is a green apartment and recycling, drinking tap water and using the plastic bags provided for shopping is encouraged. It’s recommended to hire a bike if you're staying a couple of days (there is a bike rental shop across the street). Otherwise walk or take trams for longer distances.

About the Location

This residence is located in the central Kinkerbuurt neighborhood in the Oud-West of Amsterdam. It’s an up and coming area that’s not overrun by tourists but has restaurants, cafes, a library, boutiques and a thriving local market. The house is within walking distance of 4 parks and within 5 minutes’ walk is De Hallen, a converted industrial building featuring a food plaza, shops, bars and a cinema, which is great on a rainy day. The museum district is a pleasant 30-minute walk or 15-minute tram ride. Public transport is just 2 minutes’ walk from the house and will take you anywhere in the city. Schiphol airport is around 20 minutes away by car or taxi.

Accommodation Details

This 4-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment is on 2 levels with a main living area and a mezzanine level and is on the first floor of the building. The living area has an open plan kitchen with a dining table seating up to 10 and a lounge area with a woodburning stove and doors to the garden. Also on this floor, and still open plan, is the master kingsize bedroom. There are 3 other bedrooms, 2 with a single / twin bed and 1 with a crib and a single / twin bed, 1 on the main floor and 2 on the mezzanine level. Also on the mezzanine level is an office area. There’s also a TV room with a single sofabed and a family bathroom with a soaking tub and a rain shower. Outside is a private, sunny terrace and communal garden with a trampoline and a lawn.

Style Notes

Eco, light and bright, modern style. The hosts of this lovely space bought the 100-year old building (a former elementary school) with a group of friends and renovated it into 9 spacious, comfortable and ‘green’ apartments. The apartment block has plenty of unique old features including high ceilings and terracotta floors in the hallway, but is also equipped with a high-tech heating system and solar panels. The eye-catching stairs and the railings of this space are made of blue steel and emphasis the apartment’s industrial, old-Amsterdam style. We love the large interior spaces and abundance of house plants; the sunny outdoor terrace; vibrant location and smart design.
