Perks for the Parents

This beautiful home in the west of Amsterdam has plenty of toys and is just 10 steps from a playground, as well as having boats at the end of the street for an easy way to see the city from the water. The apartment is walking distance to all central attractions and museums, but in a quiet, family friendly part town. There are so many bars and restaurant to choose from nearby, with one of the best bars a few minutes’ walk. In the summer, there are al fresco coffee and dining opportunities on the doorstep. TEDS does a wonderful all day brunch.

Why Kids Love it

This apartment is a great open plan space for days spent indoors with little ones: the living room is long enough for riding around on ride on toys and building some pretty long train tracks. Older kids who want to explore the city are in a great central spot and also a calm quiet neighbourhood. For babies and smaller kids, the back bedroom is lovely and quiet. De Hallen cinema is great for a really rainy day, as are any of the museums. The beautiful Vondelpark is a 10-minute walk away, as is the Foodhallen, great for meals with the kids, no matter what their age or taste preferences.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. IMPORTANT POINT: The host can only accept bookings where one family is staying. Bookings for 2 families or more staying together cannot be accepted. The house has a good staircase by Amsterdam standards - it's not very steep - and a stair gate can be arranged if needed. Parking is available right outside, with a pay as you go system. There are also indoor car parks a very short walk away. You will find plenty of things to keep the kids entertained, including a whole toy wardrobe to explore, and most items you could need for small children including stools, a high chair and cot bed if needed. There is 1 bathroom and an extra, separate WC. Car rental is just around the corner, but not essential.

About the Location

The residence is in the central Oud West area of Amsterdam. For older children, museums, shops and galleries are all walking distance away, with boat hire and the Vondelpark nearby. Foodhallen and De Hallen cinema are on the doorstep. For smaller children, the local playground a few steps away is perfect with a sand pit and slide. The Westerpark and Vondelpark have a farm and lots of outdoor play opportunities. The area is well served by all trams and the airport bus stops a 5-minute walk away. Schiphol airport is around 20 minutes away by car/taxi.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom apartment is set over 2 floors, raised ground floor and subterranean. The living room and kitchen are open plan with a cosy south-facing balcony. Downstairs there are 2 double bedrooms (with kingsize or double bed) and a great kids room that has bunk beds and a separate toddler bed. The bedroom level has access to a small, private and sunny graveled garden. The bathroom has a bathtub and shower.

Style Notes

Modern bohemian. This beautiful home is bright and uncluttered, with a lovely modern kitchen and bathroom, and thoughtful interior design touches. The furniture is retro and vintage, well used and well loved. It combines with color and space to create a relaxed feel for kids, where they can play, jump and craft in an environment that is casual and fun. We love the bear head on the wall with its flower crown-style wreath, the fairy lights on the kids bunkbed canopy, and the clean and uncluttered feel.

Thank you, Sarah! Our family of three including one-year-old daughter had a great week long stay. Comfortable and well supplied home, with plenty of toys and conveniences for the baby. We were out every day and enjoyed walking to Jordaan, Vondelpark, De Pijp for restaurants, shops, museums, parks. Both Sarah and Lorena (there to help us in the day-to-day) were very responsive and helpful. The back balcony was so nice for meals outside.

We had such a lovely stay! The location was wonderful. So close to the heart of the city and so family friendly. Our 2 and 5 year olds were so content and we spent a significant part of every day playing at the playground

We visit Amsterdam for the first with our 3 kids. The location is great and we did all our visits by walking from the appartment. Appartment is clean and check-in and check-out were friendly and easy. Thanks again for this lovely stay

We spent a long weekend in Amsterdam and had a wonderful time staying at the Jacob Van Lennepstraat Residence No 2. The location was perfect on a quiet street, close to stores and cafes, and easy access to trams and buses to anywhere around the city. Many times, we chose to walk to our destinations (e.g., museums, Foodhallen) because it wouldn't be much longer than taking public transportation. When not exploring the city, the residence was a great place to unwind. The children (9, 6, 5, and almost 1) enjoyed the variety of toys and the open floor plan upstairs was perfect for hanging out as a family. The baby gate at the top of the stairs was a huge bonus for us with the youngest child. Sarah and her partner were easy to work with and Alice, the friend who checked us in, was cheerful and helpful. This trip wouldn't have been as much fun for the kids if we'd stayed in a hotel because they wouldn't have had the room and access to toys like they had here. Thanks for sharing your beautiful space with us! A quick tip: I always recommend that visitors bring slippers or non-slip socks when staying at a place in the Netherlands. The stairs at this residence aren't as steep as some, but are still slippery in regular socks and most people want something covering their feet in the cooler months.

Handsome houses and street markets

This area of the city is 10-minutes to the east of downtown and is known for its handsome houses, busy shopping streets and street markets. It's close to the Vondelpark and is a great place for a family, with good restaurants and terraces for people-watching. It's also known for having the highest concentration of coffee bars in the city.
