This beautiful period home in Amsterdam’s Oud-West neighborhood has its own backyard playground, multiple kids rooms and a stunning roof terrace. It sleeps 12 + 1. This spacious house has lots of flexible bedroom options for different-sized families, friends or guests such as a nanny or au pair. The large open-plan kitchen is a pleasure to cook in and the whole family can enjoy the living space together for eating, playing and relaxing. Visit the world-famous tourist attractions in the city or spend your days cycling by the canals, before relaxing in the beautiful backyard or private balconies.

Why Kids Love it

This home is filled with plenty of toys, English books and games for kids under 14. As well as the 2 kids bedrooms (with great cabin bunk beds) there is a separate playroom and TV room, not to mention a piano to try out in the living area and the amazing backyard playhouse with slide. It’s a short walk to local playgrounds, green spaces and the canals, and it’s less than 10 minutes walk to the amazing green Vondelpark, which has a range of playgrounds, ponds, an open air theater and a children’s pool in the summer months.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 night. The house is set over 4 floors are the stairs are steep, which is typical of period properties in this style in Amsterdam. There are no stair gates so younger children should be supervised and it may not be suitable for babies or toddlers. Car hire is not essential as it’s easy to walk or use public transport around the city. The residence comes with a baby monitor, children’s utensils, dishwasher, DVD library, DVD player, fireplace guard, games console, high chair, outlet plug, TV, washer/dryer, WiFi and window guard. There is a mobile air conditioning unit in the master bedroom, 3 Dyson aircleaners/aircoolers and 3 standing tower fans to cool the home in summer.

About the Location

This residence is located in the Oud-West neighborhood of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. It’s a 20 minute cab ride from Schipol Airport. It’s 2 minutes’ walk to Amsterdam Overtoom station for tram and train access - the public transport here is efficient and easy to navigate. There are lots of family-friendly eateries and shops in walking distance, and the major tourist sights are within easy reach: check out the Van Gogh Museum (12 minutes’ walk), Moco Modern Art Museum (15 minutes’ walk), Artis Zoo (30 minutes via tram) or Anne Frank House (15 minutes via tram).

Accommodation Details

This residence has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The first/ground floor has a cozy living room with fireplace, dining room (with dining table seating 8) and an open plan kitchen with breakfast bar seating 4. There are doors out to the backyard which has a playhouse and a dining table seating 6. On the second floor there is a laundry room and 3 bedrooms: 1 with a double bed, 1 with a single bed and the third with a single trundle bed. This floor also has a bathroom and a WC. On the 3rd floor are 2 additional children bedrooms, 1 with with a bunkbed (2 beds and 1 trundle bed) and a room with 2 single beds (one is lofted with a play area), as well as a bathroom and WC. On the top floor there is a master bedroom with 1 kingsize bed and a study. On the roof there is a sun room with 1 single sofabed and sliding doors leading to a roof terrace. There is also 1 travel crib and 1 airbed available. There is a separate master bathroom with a soaking tub and a family bathroom with shower and bath for the kids.

Style Notes

Victorian townhouse. This beautiful home is filled with stunning period features, such as the original back patio doors, fireplaces and elegant staircase. The residence was recently renovated and the hosts have restored some of the original details (such as moldings on the ceilings and original woodwork) but updated it with contemporary bathrooms, light white decor and a stylish modern kitchen. We love the natural parquet wooden floors, the exposed ceiling beams in the master bedroom and the stylish drop lighting in the kitchen.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.

Johanna and I live in Amsterdam since 2005. We have four kids. With them we travel quite a lot. In 2017 we travelled for almost 5 months through Lebanon, Iran, India, China, Mongolia, Japan, and Fiji. We hope to do that another time because it was quite special to travel for such a long time as a family.

Handsome houses and street markets

This area of the city is 10-minutes to the east of downtown and is known for its handsome houses, busy shopping streets and street markets. It's close to the Vondelpark and is a great place for a family, with good restaurants and terraces for people-watching. It's also known for having the highest concentration of coffee bars in the city.

Staying here was like being in a home away from home. The house is so beautiful and had everything (and more) we could ask for to make our stay comfortable. The location is also fantastic with nice cafes nearby and great connectivity to the rest of Amsterdam. Thank you Johanna and you family for your warm hospitality. We left with fond memories and hope to stay with you again soon!
