Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of toys and books for kids under 8 and is a great family space with a living room large enough for wheeled toys. It’s 10 meters (!) to local playgrounds (swings/ slides/ climbing/ basketball and soccer field) and the kids rooms are bright and colorful. A crib, high chair and baby toys are all available. Bikes will be available to use (2 adult bikes, 1 cargo bike and 2 children's bikes). The city of Haarlem is only an 8-minute bike ride away and the beaches of Bloemendaal and Zandvoort are 10 minutes away.

Style Notes

Bright, light and modern. This light-filled house has some Scandinavian touches and bold dashes of color here and there. The handmade wooden kitchen with its RVS counter is an eye-catcher, and the sunny garden with lounge area and dining table is also a big perk. We love the pretty wallpaper in the children's rooms, the relaxing family spaces and the mid century modern furniture.

Hi there, We are a family of 5 living in a cute beachtown 10 min from the beautiful coast (Amsterdam Beach) and close to Amsterdam. We love living here, with the city centre of Haarlem just 10 minutes by bike and Amsterdam within reach of a 20 min trainride from our trainstation (5 min walk from our home). Amsterdam with it's beautiful canals, wonderful architecture, museums, various parks for cycling, running, playing, walking and hanging out, great shops and awesome restaurants. We live in a very comfortable house with our 2 boys (11&10) and a girl (7 yrs), we have our own front and backyard AND a playground incl football field in FRONT of our house. We have a trampoline in our front garden for the kids! We have everything available to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We would love to welcome you here in Overveen. Warm regards, Evelien

Overveen, Outside Amsterdam

To the beach and the city and back again

The pretty village of Overveen has the one of the best locations in the whole of the Netherlands - cycling distance from dune-backed sandy beaches on the North Sea coast, close to the city of Haarlem, and also just a 20-minute train ride from Amsterdam Central Station. Play on the beach at Zandvoort and Bloemendaal in the summer, eat out in relaxed cafes with play spaces and great food, and explore Haarlem's many ice cream shops.

We stayed at Evelien's house for nearly a week in August and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Lovely, very family-friendly home conveniently located near Haarlem and the beach in a quiet residential neighborhood. The house was very clean and well organized, warm and inviting with a spacious, well-stocked kitchen. Our boys, ages 9, are around the same age as Evelien's - the toys and soccer field literally across the street were particular hits. There is also a charming garden in the back. We enjoyed visits to Haarlem, Zandvoort Beach (would recommend Vooges and Ubuntu restaurants), Duinrel amusement park with great water slides and biking in Zuid Kennemerland. We also made day trips to Leiden and Utrecht, both within reasonable driving distance. Evelien was a terrific hostess, responsive and accommodating with many great suggestions. Would love to visit again and highly recommend.

We spent 2 weeks at the Prins Hendriklaan Residence and had a wonderful stay! The house is located in a very green and quiet area in the little town of Overveen, across the street from a playground. It was very bright and beautifully decorated with some nice pieces of design (I discovered how comfortable the Eames lounge chair was!). We enjoyed the fully-equipped kitchen and the well-thought toys corner... Our 5-year-old and 21-month-old boys did not leave this room, and had plenty of games to play with (it was a great fit as the family’s 3 kids are around the same age). As non-Dutch people, the stairs seemed very steep to us at first but we got used to it pretty quickly and they were safely gated for toddlers at each level of the house. There was even a small and enjoyable private garden, which the pictures on the website did not show. Evelien was a great host, remaining available throughout our stay and leaving detailed instructions and useful tips for activities and restaurants in the area. We chose not to rent a car and did not miss it at all (the place is conveniently located about 30 minutes away from Schiphol airport by taxi) but used the house’s bikes every day to go to Haarlem (beautiful town with a river, windmill, nice restaurants and shops only a few minutes away), to the beach (around 40/45-minute ride to Zandvoort and Bloemendaal which seemed to be a kite-surfing paradise) and to the amazing national park that is surrounding Overveen (kids particularly enjoyed the long sandy beaches, the walks in the woods, through the dunes and approaching deers and other farm animals). An easy 20-minute train journey can also take you to Amsterdam, with everything this much bigger city can offer (the stroller that was kindly left for us was perfect for our day-trip there). Everything went very well so that’s another place we warmly recommend, to discover the North Sea coast of the Netherlands and enjoy the wild nature while remaining very close to the cities!
