Perks for the Parents
This private ground floor apartment is set in a boutique estate in Perugia, overlooking fields and rolling hills, with a beautiful garden and shared pool. It sleeps 4 + 1. The main estate was built in 1893 and contains a beautifully restored 2-story stone farmhouse with 2 separate luxury villas. It is set on an organic farm with a cooking school and wine tours, with a shared infinity swimming pool. Tailor-made services are available to help with excursions, events and airport transfers - all guests are personally welcomed by the owners and will receive personal attention and care during their stay. Guests may take advantage of free produce from the vegetable garden (fruit, tomatoes, greens) when in season. Parents can book spa amenities, such as massages, manicures, pedicures and facials, at the estate or in the villa. What’s more, horseback riding, golf and sailing sessions can be arranged on request.
Why Kids Love it
The hosts provide toys for children of all ages. Young children will enjoy swimming and making new friends in the pool and there are toys and a ping pong table at the pool area too. The nearby village is very child friendly and full of families: it has weekly family classes including pottery and daily cookery classes. There’s also a playground less than 5 minutes’ walk away. Ask the hosts for help arranging a babysitter (they have a Montessori-trained babysitter available). There are plenty of lovely villages to visit nearby, plus a chocolate factory, an aqua park, horseback riding, donkey riding and more. Bike rental is also available for the whole family to explore the local countryside.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 3 nights. Safety notes: the infinity saltwater pool is not gated or heated, so young children should be supervised. There is no bathtub in this apartment. The apartment can be rented for larger parties with the Tignanello, Sassicaia and/or Desiderio apartments within The Fontegirasole Villa or with any others on the estate. There is a high chair and travel crib available for 1 baby. Guests can add various extras to their stay, including a private chef, cooking school, airport transfers, wine tours and food tours. Included in all rates are: air conditioning, smart TV, DVD player, iPod speakers, radio, WiFi, towels and pool towels, hair dryer, dishwasher and washing machine. The hosts can help arrange a rental car on request - car hire is essential. A library of English language books is provided in each villa, including a selection of art books, guides, maps, brochures and tourist information.
About the Location
The residence is located near Paciano, where there are 3 restaurants, 2 bars, a pharmacy, a doctor, a museum, a tourist information center (open in summer) and a little shop. Paciano is located in Perugia, on the Umbria/Tuscan border, approximately 50 minutes west of Perugia city, and 12km south of Lago Trasimeno (for Chiusi Chianciano train station). It’s perfect for exploring Tuscany and Umbria, while Siena, Montalcino, Pienza, Orvieto, Assisi, Deruta and Montepulciano are all less than 1 hour away. Ask the hosts about a guided tour of all the best spots in Umbria and Tuscany. The closest international airport is Perugia, just under an hour away, or in Rome (around 2 hours’ drive).
Accommodation Details
This villa has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, set over 2 floors. On the ground floor there is a double living room with a fireplace and a fully-equipped kitchen with a dining table seating 6 and a bathroom. On the second floor there are 2 large bedrooms, each with kingsize beds, as well as a bathroom with shower (no bathtub). There is also 1 crib available. From the windows of the upper floors, guests can admire the beautiful landscape that surrounds the villa - truly breathtaking. There are fans in all the rooms, and the house is very well insulated - it’s an original 1700’s stone house. The garden has a patio with a barbecue, dining area and outdoor seating.
Style Notes
Traditional stone villa. The space is inspired by the owners’ love of wine - the name Ornellaia is in honor of the super Tuscan wine Ornellaia, from Lodovico Antinori in Tuscany. This property is designed with simple elegance and high comfort in mind: the interiors are very spacious and furnished with a combination of antique and contemporary pieces from Tuscany, Umbria and from the owner’s travels all over the world. Set on 40 acres with 3,000 olive trees and a small vineyard of old Sangiovese and Grechetto grapes, there are classic views of rolling green hills from the windows and garden. We love the unique blue color used in the kitchen, the exposed ceiling beams and the built-in bench seat in the bedroom.
