Perks for the Parents

This bright and open Palm Springs residence with a pool and spa is well set up for those with young children and sleeps up to 6 + 1. When the owners remodeled it in 2015/16, they did everything they could to make it fun and safe for small children - not just a security fence for the pool but also doors that chime when you open them, so you know if kids are heading outside, and plenty of equipment and toys to help you travel light. Everything is child friendly but also beautifully designed and fun for parents too. Entertainment options include a 55'' 4k high definition TV with built-in Roku, Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO. Babysitting can be arranged with the host on consultation.

Why Kids Love it

The residence is packed with toys for kids under 5, plus a few for older kids, and is a great family space with a large living room, huge sofa, large farmhouse dining table, and bar with counter stools. A travel crib, highchair, stroller, toys, riding toys, scooter, and sand and pool toys are available. All beds have waterproof mattress and pillow covers; the dining table, coffee table, and countertops are child friendly (so no need to worry about spills and scratches). The couch is fully washable. The central bathroom has a cast iron low profile tub that is easy to step in and out of. All bedrooms have block-out roller blinds and/or heavy blinds for a good night’s sleep.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. There is an additional fee to heat the spa ($25/day) or pool and spa ($50/day). Key features of the house include a pool, spa, a huge sandbox for kids, and nice sidewalks for scooters and bikes. The only part of the house that isn't currently kid-friendly is the garage; families are asked to keep doors to the garage locked. It is easy to do with keyless entry on the garage doors. The pool and spa meet all safety standards and the yard is fully fenced with padlock. A pool/spa security fence is available upon request for a small extra fee as it requires setup and breakdown. There are very few breakable items - those that are present can easily be moved to higher positions. There are ceiling fans in all rooms, water-saving toto toilets, and an AC and heating unit. There is keyless entry to the house.

About the Location

The residence is in the Sonora Sunrise neighborhood on the south end of Palm Springs. It is a quiet residential neighborhood with a mix of full-time residents, seasonal visitors, and vacation rental homes. Protected from the strong winds that the north side of town experiences, it is close to the mountains and away from the noise of the airport. The house is minutes (3 minute drive or ~10-15 minute walk) from grocery stores, a pharmacy, and numerous restaurants and retail stores. It is 4 blocks from highway 111 and close to the Saguaro, Ace, and Parker hotels. On the weekend a free shuttle 4 blocks away runs to the main strip of Palm Springs and brings you downtown - no need for a car. Kids also love the tramway. Palm Springs airport is 5 minutes away; the property is just under 2 hours’ drive from Los Angeles.

Style Notes

Spanish Living. The residence embodies the unique Spanish-style architecture that emerged in Palm Springs in the early 1970s. Completely remodeled in 2015/2016, it has been opened up to feel light, airy, and spacious. The kitchen and baths are modern, light, and sophisticated. The furnishings are simple but stylish and include a mix of vintage and modern pieces. There are custom-built chandeliers in kitchen and dining area and gold and retro accents to echo the style of the area. We love the open plan living space, the views of the mountains from the garden and pool, and the desert pictures, animal heads and contemporary art throughout.

We call San Francisco home but also love spending time in sunny Palm Springs. We have toddler twins and enjoy swimming, being outdoors, and relaxing with them. We love traveling in the US and abroad, and enjoy both city vacations as well as trips to the beach. We joined Kid & Coe to find vacation rentals geared towards families and to also offer our kid-friendly home in Palm Springs, CA.

We had an amazing stay here! The East Sonora is super family-friendly and beautifully renovated. Bethann provided us with a great list of local restaurants and attractions and she was easily reachable via text for any questions we had. Our older son would've been happy to play all day in the pool and with the many toys provided. The kitchen is well stocked, the bedrooms are spacious, and the bathrooms recently renovated. Overall a wonderful experience and we hope to be back soon!

Palm Springs, California

Dinosaurs, design and the desert

Don't tell everyone, but Palm Springs is a truly great vacation spot for families. Sit in your sunny backyard and take a dip in the pool to cool off; play in neighborhood parks or take to the desert, spotting dinosaur attractions beside the road as you go. It's a great area for hiking if your kids are big enough, and water parks are a must-do, at least once during your stay. Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage has a huge green lawn where kids can play - on Sunday mornings they bring big toys out specially for them! Cultural appeal comes courtesy of the Living Desert and the Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert, plus myriad design, art and architecture museums that are stroller-friendly and great for older kids too.
