Perks for the Parents

This magical mountain hideaway on Paros has spectacular views of the Cycladic Islands and beaches 15 minutes away. Ideal for parents with young children who just want to get away from it all and walk in the hills, it is a short car ride down the mountain to island villages and beaches. The renovated farmhouse has 2 separate traditional structures surrounded by an herb garden and fig, pomegranate, almond, and olive trees. The upper building sleeps 3 and has a charming kitchen, while the lower building has been converted to sleep another 4. This mountain retreat blends the historic with artistic design, sparkling cleanliness, and all amenities. This is the quintessential ‘Old Greece’ - a bit off the beaten path, but within 15 minutes of 4 villages, a dozen beaches, and several delicious tavernas.

Why Kids Love it

Children love the tinkle of goat bells as they graze in the mountains and olive groves nearby. This relaxing spot offers opportunities to play in the secluded home wrapped in patios and gardens, with thrilling views to the sea and the islands beyond. Whether they like painting, writing, drawing or just playing at the beach, there’s enough to keep them happy. Small and cozy rooms are perfectly kid sized, and a dedicated kids bedroom, with a bunk bed and bed rails, is ideal. Outside, kids can roam around the crazy-paved garden and enjoy meals outside in the sun and shade.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days. There are no stair gates and there are steps inside the property and around the garden - toddlers and crawling babies may need extra assistance. This is a charming, small pair of cottages with excellent outdoor space - part of the charm is the simplicity of the house and beauty of the setting. There is a washer but no dryer. There is no TV. There is WiFi but the house is a little out of the action - Elia Villa (owned by the same family) is in a more lively setting. Car rental is essential in this destination; a 4 wheel drive is recommended in case roads are rough during your stay.

About the Location

The residence is in Paros, at the center of Greece's Cycladic islands in the Aegean sea. Its immediate neighbors include the islands of Syros and Mykonos to the north; Naxos to the east; Ios and Sikinos to the south; and Antiparos and Sifnos to the west. Also to the north is the archaeological site of Delos, one of Greece's most historically significant. Beyond the obvious delights of the sea and sun, visitors will discover rich historical treasures, a diversity of art galleries, and excellent locally produced food and wine. The property is 7.5km (approximately 15 minutes) by car from the airport and 16km (approximately 30 minutes) to the main town/port of Paroikia.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 2 buildings - the upper building sleeps 3 and has a lovely kitchen, while the other building, a converted and renovated former goat house 30m from the upper building, sleeps a further 4. The upper, main house has a sleeping alcove with a twin bed, and a living room with 2 single sofa beds, sleeping up to 3 total. The rooms are open plan. The lower house contains the master bedroom with a queensize bed and a bedroom with a bunk bed sleeping up to 4. There is also a small kitchenette in the lower cottage, while the main kitchen is in the upper, main house. There are 2 bathrooms with shower only. The buildings are surrounded by a herb garden and fig, pomegranate, almond, and olive trees.

Style Notes

Renovated gem. This beautifully reworked Greek farmhouse brings together comfort and beauty with traditional touches and modern conveniences. Expect intimate, special, one-of-a-kind rooms with natural stone and woodwork, with spectacular views of five Cycladic Islands and the surrounding rugged hills. In the past, 3 generations of farm families lived here with 7 children each, and now every detail has been impeccably and artistically designed. We love the pretty terraces, the rustic touches with whitewashed walls and plenty of wooden items, and the jolly, colorful kids bedroom.

We built/renovated and outfitted our homes for our family, and the kids have grown up in them. We also enjoy exploring the rest of the world. Other favorite places include Sardinia and Kauai.
