Perks for the Parents

A fun and family-friendly townhouse in Victoria Park, close to local cafes and restaurants and within easy reach of the city. Sleeps 6. This townhouse is well set up for a family, with a big kitchen (with a Thermomix and a very large oven) and spacious dining/lounge area for family meals. There’s plenty of equipment to keep kids entertained as well as parks and cafes within walking distance. For family days out, there are lots of fun activities to enjoy in Perth city, including the WA Museum, Perth City Farm, Scitech science museum and more.

Why Kids Love it

This home is perfect for parents traveling with active young children and toddlers. There are heaps of toys in the toy room and playful kids bedrooms with books for bedtime. Bath time is a fun affair too, with plenty of bath toys to entertain little ones. Outside, there’s a large trampoline and rebound soccer goals, as well as a shed stocked with scooters, bikes and helmets (for kids and adults), soccer balls and outdoor sports equipment. While the yard isn’t huge, there is also a gated driveway to play in and a park on the corner of the block (less than 1 minute walk). Located next to this park is a great cafe too, for parents to grab a coffee while the kids play.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 weeks. Safety notes: this is a secure townhouse with a lockable gate at the end of the driveway. There are no stair gates but these can be bought easily if you need one. The hosts have a cat who will be living at the property during your stay and will require feeding if possible. She is very independent and can be left with food out for a weekend (and neighbors can feed her if guests plan to be away for longer than a weekend) but this may not suit a family with allergies. You can park in the driveway and in the car bays in the front on the street (read the street signs for which side you can park on).

About the Location

The house is located near the Swan River in the Victoria Park neighborhood of Perth in Western Australia. It’s a 2-minute walk to the local cafe and restaurant strip with many different cuisines to choose from, a variety of cafes and bakeries and supermarket. It’s a 3-minute drive to the Swan River which has flat, smooth bike paths (great for the kids to ride around) with parks, cafes and exercise equipment along the way. It’s very close to Perth City, which is just a 10-minute train ride away - public transport is very easy from here. The Perth Hills are a 25-minute drive away where you can hike on kid-friendly trails along the creeks and waterfalls. Perth airport is just 15 minutes’ drive.

Accommodation Details

This double storey townhouse has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Downstairs, here’s an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area downstairs, well-equipped for younger kids with a toddler step stool and high chair, together with a playroom with lots of arts and crafts materials, lego, Barbie house and more. Upstairs, the primary bedroom has a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom, and there are also 2 children’s bedrooms: one with a single bed and a trundle (to sleep 2 kids), the other with a queensize bed (also sleeps 2). Outside, there’s a cozy day bed and dining area for eating outdoors in the warmer months.

Style Notes

Fun and vibrant. This house feels bright, light and contemporary. While the walls are light, there is bright artwork in every room to add color and warmth. The house is filled with light, even in the winter months and the open plan layout downstairs feels social and easy for families. We love the quirky kitchen swing seat, the cool soccer prints in the kids bedroom and the light-filled staircase, decorated with fun wall art.

We are a family of four and 1 cat. Our children are 8 and 6 years. Darren and I both lecture in design during the week. Our weekends usually consist of family time, kids sporting activities and getting outdoors together, so bike riding around the river, trail walking, swimming at the beach, kayaking along the river and quiet time at home. We love great design, nature, art and having fun experiences with our family.

Dolphins, wine and heavenly beaches

Western Australia’s largest city is known for its soft sand Indian Ocean beaches and vibrant city streets. Don’t miss swimming in clear water at Cottesloe Beach, visiting Rottnest Island for a selfie with a quokka, and exploring the historic streets of Fremantle. Swan Valley wine is a treat for parents while a swim with wild dolphins at Shoalwater Islands Marine Park nearby will create unforgettable memories for all the family.
