This compact stone cottage is the former wine cellar on an Umbrian estate with a pool, lovingly restored and turned into a retreat that sleeps up to 4. It can be booked with a second cottage on the site, The Fienile Residence, which sleeps another 4. It makes a wonderful place to stay for a young family, with a double bed and double sofa bed, plus a travel crib on request. Decorated in natural colors using original stonework and stunning wood-beamed ceilings, it’s charming and characterful. The views from the striped deckchairs on the private terrace overlook fields, a valley and forests. Along with enjoying the estate’s swimming pool, 2.5-acre gardens, playgrounds, pizza oven and olive grove, be sure to visit the small herd of alpacas at the estate, and day trip to the nearby water parks and chocolate factory.
What we love
- The original features - the stone walls, the wood-beamed ceilings - plus the natural colors make this a soothing countryside retreat
- There’s plenty for kids to do, with a shared swimming pool, playground and gardens to explore
- Best for a family with a small child as it is compact and has just one bedroom and a double sofa bed
- Kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave and dining table for 4 and small TV downstairs; the lounge has an orthopedic sofa bed
- Double bedroom upstairs, which can be made up as a twin, and a bathroom
- Private terrace with striped deckchairs, a covered pergola, dining area and stunning views
- Guests have access to a communal room with DVDs, travel guides, children’s books, novels, cookery books, magazines and games
- All guests receive supplies for their first breakfast plus a bottle of wine and basic necessities
- Nearby attractions include water parks and a chocolate factory, golf courses and spas, and wine tasting and truffle hunting
- There's also a small herd of alpacas in a paddock at the estate who are very friendly and love younger guests
