Perks for the Parents

This classic Italian villa on the Antognolla estate in Umbria features an L-shaped infinity saltwater pool and is surrounded by herb and flower-filled gardens. It sleeps 12 + 3. This beautiful spot, with views over an ancient castle, is perfectly set up for a relaxing family stay, with plenty of attractions nearby. Close to the Tuscan and Le Marche borders, the residence is 15 minutes from Perugia and an hour and a half to Florence. Inside, it’s a grand house with high ceilings, chandeliers and a separate 2-bedroom cottage; ideal for grandparents, friends or a nanny. Play in the gardens, visit the castle or take day trips to the stunning cities and countryside treats nearby.

Why Kids Love it

This is an idyllic spot for families to get away. As well as splashing in the pool or exploring the rambling gardens outside, kids can take a break from their parents in the dedicated games room (which leads off from the main sitting room) with a snooker table, table tennis and board games. Baby essentials can be provided (such as toys, a baby bath, monitor, high chair and children’s dinnerware), while older kids or teenagers could have their own space in the separate 2-bedroom cottage. Further afield, it’s around 15 minutes’ drive out of Perugia to visit Citta della Domenica children’s wildlife and amusement park, or half an hour to the Tavernelle Aquatic Park.

Things to Know

There is undercover parking for 2 cars and ample space on the driveway for more vehicles - car hire is strongly recommended. The villa is totally secure, with gated entry. The swimming pool is not gated but the host can install a temporary fence around the pool area that is effective for toddlers. The villa and cottage are booked as one residence - guests will have private use of both properties. In the main villa, 3 of the bedrooms are upstairs and 1 is on the ground floor. Pre-arrival shopping or catering services are available on request. Broadband internet is free and available throughout the property. The residence has a satellite TV, VCR and DVD player, plus a selection of videos and DVDs.

About the Location

This villa is located in Perugia, Italy. The closest airport is in Perugia, which is around 15 minutes’ drive. There are tennis courts and a golf course nearby, plus the attractions of Perugia: pretty piazzas, plenty of city parks and the 16th century fortress, Rocca Paolina. As well as exploring the beautiful northern Umbrian countryside, you can get your culture fix in Florence (around 2 hours away), home to world-renowned museums and art galleries, or visit the picturesque Lago Trasimeno lake and parks (1 hour away).

Accommodation Details

This residence has 4 ensuite bedrooms in the main villa, plus 2 ensuite bedrooms in the cottage. The master yellow bedroom in the villa has a hydrotherapy bath; all the other bedrooms have showers except for the downstairs double bedroom in the Villa and second bedroom in the cottage that both also have a bath. Each room (apart from the master bedroom) can be made up with twin or double beds on request. The living-dining room is incredible, with a huge fireplace and antique French oak dining table seating 8-12. This is a great house for at-home dining: cook up a storm with local produce fresh from the market in the large family kitchen with its 2 ovens, gas range, fridge and coffee maker. The cottage also has a second kitchen. Outside, the L-shaped saltwater pool is perfect for a sunny day, with a covered pergola, seating area and gas BBQ beside its terrace with sunbeds and umbrellas. The landscaped gardens are stunning, with banks of lavender, mature olive trees, shrubs and flower-filled borders, plus a kitchen garden. All bedrooms have Air Conditioning.

Style Notes

Rural retreat. This historic home is part of a 600-year-old estate, yet the modern fixtures - dishwasher and washing machine included - make it a luxurious place to stay. The house is packed with beautiful original features, such as timber beams, wooden window shutters and old stone walls outside. The lush gardens, tranquil location and green views make this a perfectly serene getaway spot. We love the traditional terracotta tiles in the living room, the Renaissance art on the walls (giving a nod to this historic location) and the stunning antique wardrobes.

I cannot say enough about Villa Capanne, the area, and wonderful hosts, David and Chrissie. The pictures are accurate, but the reality is even better— little sweet herb bed, flowers, seclusion, comfortable beds and furniture, pool toys, and an amazing team keeping it all fresh and beautiful. David and Chrissie helped us with reservations and ideas, which was wonderful. You must do the recommended wine tasting experience nearby! But, the thing that meant the most to me (and the reason, actually, that I like booking via Kid & Coe) was the real, practical understanding of kids and their needs. Our daughter developed an ear infection toward the end of our two week stay, and Chrissie was incredibly supportive and kind. David even went to the pharmacy for us. This place was the perfect, welcome combination of outstanding beauty, quality, practicality, and kindness.

We spent a fantastic 6 nights at Villa Capanne. We were a group of 11 (6 adults and 5 children) and this villa was perfect to meet the needs of our group. The villa was spotless and has every amenity we could want or need. David and Chrissie clearly love the region and provided a wealth of knowledge of local activities (and booked a fantastic cooking class and wine tasting). The pool in incredible and hours were spent playing in it. We can’t leave out what wonderful hosts David and Chrissie are - responded to every questions we had and checked in regularly to see if we needed anything. We loved Umbria and our time at Villa Capanne and would definitely stay there again.
