Perks for the Parents

This bucolic residence with a pool, surrounded by vineyards and leafy streets, offers a taste of upscale country living in the south of France. It sleeps 12 + 1. Once a maison de maître, or wine master’s house, it dates to 1860 and has been beautifully restored with a beautiful open plan kitchen and plenty of comfortable lounge areas. The house boasts six bedrooms, configured variously with double and single beds, and works well for a large family group. Parents will love spending time outdoors here, where the garden is filled with herbs, rose bushes and almond, apple and chestnut trees. Spend your days splashing in the private pool, and then convene on the patio for leisurely meals under the chestnut tree.

Why Kids Love it

You’ll find toys, DVDs, book and spots equipment for kids, as well as the fantastic heated pool. The hosts have tennis rackets and balls to use at the local court, or table tennis gear to have family games at the house. The owners have 2 boys so will be happy to recommend any local activities: there’s a great zip-line activity center in the nearby forest (Foret des acrobats), or they can try pony trekking at the Domain Equestre des Trois Fontaines. The whole family will love days out at the beach, on the river, or boating on the beautiful Lac du Salagou. Ask the hosts about local babysitters if you would like to have a parents-only night out.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Check in: 4pm, check out: 10am. Safety note: the pool is gated; stairs are not. There’s plenty of room for parking 4 cars - car rental is recommended to explore the area. There is a CarGo! rental agency in Pezenas. It’s 25 minutes’ drive to Beziers-Cap d’Agde airport and the train stations in Beziers and Montpellier. The TV has UK satellite channels. Weekly cleaning included; additional cleaning services and change of linen / towels is available on request for an additional fee.

About the Location

The residence is located in Bélarga, 12km from Pezenas in the South of France. You can walk to the local village, which has a grocery shop (which serves fresh bread and croissants each morning) and an excellent vineyard (which makes some of the best wines in the region, Les Quatre Amours). You can cycle to Pezenas on the flat, shady roads or it’s a short drive. To visit the nearby beaches, it’s 20 minutes to Meze or 30 minutes to Marseillan and Cap d'Agde. There’s also a river beach on the Herault river, just a few minutes walk from the house, which is also great for kayaking (rent equipment from Canoe Rapido in Saint Guilhem).

Accommodation Details

The house has 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. There are 3 double bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms with double beds plus single beds (sleeping up to 3 in each). The final bedroom is a single room and the hosts can also provide 1 crib. One of the bedrooms has a bathtub and a walk-in shower; the other has a shower-over-bath. The fully equipped kitchen has doors leading out to the terrace, so you can keep an eye on the kids while they play outside. There’s also a cozy sun-filled living room with a TV and a sofa, as well as a dining room seating 10. The garden features a serene heated pool with sun loungers on the deck and a patio with a shaded dining table seating 10.

Style Notes

Contemporary farmhouse. This classic French home blends contemporary styling with traditional features to create a comfortable vacation home. Wooden floors and original fireplaces add history and charm, while the modern kitchen and stylish wood-burner bring the interiors up to date. We love the grand stone staircase, the charming Provencal-style wooden furniture and the striking black and white floor tiles.
